Magic & Kings

Post#1 » by omeloon » Wed Jan 23, 2008 6:25 am

Salmons and Kenny Thomas

for Arroyo (ending), Garrity (ending), and Brian Cook.

Dwight, Foyle
Rashard, Thomas
Turk, (Rashard)
Salmons, Evans, Bogans
Nelson, Dooling, (Salmons)

The Magic get the best player in the deal (Salmons). Kenny Thomas can still be a fairly decent rebounder, so he might even prove to become a major part of the rotation. He's been stuck in the doghouse in Sac. The Magic basically spread their depth more nicely, and look to get back to the kind of play they started the season with. They get a lot more help on the boards, and should be more balanced offensively.

The Kings shed a whole lot of salary, and bring back a PG just incase they want to move Bibby elsewhere.

No thank you. At the very least, offer ALL expirings. Cook still has 2 years left after this season.

i don't think salmons is someone the kings would look to move. he's playing great/versatile/young and most importantly not overpaid. he's a keeper no matter what direction the kings go.

It's an interesting trade in principle, but I agree that Petrie would need a little more to pull the trigger on it.

I would probably do it.

Garcia is good enough to take the backup minutes.

We get rid of Thomas. I like that.

Cook is okay. I think he'd do okay with the Kings.

Aye, shedding salary is nice, but shedding talent is not. Kings need a lil more incentive. IF you still had Ariza instead of cook that might have been a bit better.

Well Arroyo would be more than filler if you guys did end up trading Bibby. Teams are going to be a lot more willing to take on Bibby if they don't have to take on Kenny Thomas. I'm sure Bibby would be dealt right after a trade like this. Salmons is solid, but he really is just a 6th man now that Bibby and Artest are back. He's replaceable.

This is true, Salmons definitely isn't high on the list of people that the Kings would more likely trade, but I think if the deal is right, Petrie would trade him.

The Kings would simply need more incentive.

Here is the deal, if the Kings are moving John it most likely means they are KEEPING Artest. If they keep Artest any chance at cap space is eliminated from the get go. Might as well keep Kenny if that is what's going to happen.

They arent even dumping KT here. Cook still has 2 more years after this @ $3.5mil each year. So, your only dumping half of KT's contract.

This deal also kills the cap hit to Orlando, takes them straight to Luxury tax.

Arroyo-Garrity-Cook 08-09: 3.5
" in 09-10: 3.5

Salmons/Thomas in 08-09: 13,046,187
" in 09-10: 14,009,125

Both teams say no, but Sacramento has more reason to say yes (10 million in savings for two years and the chance Cook opts out.)
