I think the main thing is Calderon doesn't get the respect he deserves. So when he's making the opposing guard look dumb they get frustrated.
And I'm glad he's talking smack, we need some guys on our team to talk it, to give us a little edge. All that matters to me is that he's a great team guy to our players.
If he went to an elite college in the states and got drafted he would be way more touted. Anyways, he'll get his money, and in this league, after you get your money you get your respect. It's not the way it should be, but htats how it is.

He may not be the most talented defender, but he tries and he gets under the skin of opposing guards, usually throwing off their game.
Calderon's defensive intensity in no way makes up for his pathetic ability to contend penetration from opposing point guards.
His defense is what I've heard some people refer to as "fake hustle". Where he seems energetic and in good defensive posture, he is nowhere near physical enough on opposing guards to make them detest him for it.

You guys can bash me all you want, but whatever, it's a stupid thing to do after every single three, even when he doesn;t hit it.... whatever, I'm gonna go get some.
I'm glad it annoys fans of other teams, especially Nets fans.

There's nothing fake about Jose's hustle.
Re: his lack of respect from other point guards: I remember reading a similar thing about Ginobili after one of the Spurs' championships. Something about how US (black) players tend not to respect his game and athleticism because he's white. They don't like this guy dunking on them, and I think opposing PG's similarly don't like Jose blowing by them with the ball.

That's basically it. Jose talks a lot out there and plays with a lot of passion, so it rubs guys the wrong way because they don't expect him to be like that while schooling them. I remember when I played ball back in high school and the least athletic guy who looked like he had no game, was out there talking a lot and playing with so much emotion. It got under everyones skin, but the guy was able to back it up. Meanwhile in the NBA guys like Lebron are physically imposing and are known to be so good, so people don't step up to them when they talk trash.

I think Jose is a bit of a stereotypical Spaniard competitor. By this I mean he plays hard, and has that way of getting under people's skin that Spaniards are stereotypically known for.
If he was on an opposing team, and playing against us, I think we might get sick of his 3-fingered gestures and what have you too.
I'm glad he's a Raptor.

Rasho was talking some smack to Voskuhl too.
But really I'm all for Jose talking smack, especially with Royal Ivey. Dude was giving out hard fouls left, right and center.
