What a bust.
Roy's first admittance into what will hopefully be the first of many All-Star games to come is always going to be tarnished because of iRoy.
I'm a huge Blazer fan myself, and I don't think it's right to entice coaches into voting for your player by sending them expensive gifts. I'm glad to hear that Roy took no part in coming up with and distributing the iPod's though.
My thoughts on the starters and reserves for the All-Star game:
-Baron Davis deserved to be in the All-Star game. Roy has played tremendously well for us this season but, like many in the G.S. forum said, he will have his chance to shine every passing year. Baron, a veteran and in my eyes a top 3 or 4 pg, deserves to get recognition for his play. Baron > Roy > West
-Why is everyone hating on Iverson being a starting guard in the West? Has everyone forgotten how good he still is even after 10+ seasons? Sure, Paul and Deron may be the up and coming pg's of the league, but Iverson is still right up if not above them. Vet's deserve their due, people.
-David West doesn't belong in the ASG.
Some other things nonrelated to this thread. First time posting in the forum, and I gotta say I'm glad to have finally done it. Been reading for a while, and you Blazerheads know your basketball. At least most of you =)
Nice to meet you all.
Blazer-related observations:
-The Dal - NJ - PDX trade talks, from what I've heard, are stll supposed to be on the table. Martell-Jack-Frye for DH and Bass, in my opinion, is a dang good trade. We Blazer fans, along with every other team fan base in the world, overvalue our players. DH and Bass fit our criteria perfectly. Our needs as of now include 1) a pg who can control the tempo, distribute to the hot hand, penetrate, and play good D, and 2) a bruiser down low. Devin Harris can do all those things, and better than our other pg's. No digs to Blake - Jack - Sergio, but we need a point with better offensive capabilities. Teams collapse on Roy now because, among many reasons, the pg just isn't an offensive threat inside the 3. Successful teams (think Spurs, Sun, Celtics, Detroit, NO, etc etc.) have pg's that can penetrate and dish. JJ can drive but he can't dish. Sergio's got a lot of potential but he above Martell needs a confidence booster. He's scared to shoot, fellas. How many times have we seen him drive all the way to the paint only to run back outside? No dig on Sergio, all he lacks is that swagger. And a midrange.
-Even though this is old news, at the beginning of this season I never thought TO had it in him. I was big on trading him before this season because he always seemed awkward on the court, had bad bball IQ, took bad shots, and didn't have any handles. Now he drains all his shots. The hell happened?!
-No way we're going to be an elite team if we play jumpshot ball every night. It finally caught up to us. It's not just that we're have poor shooting nights, but it's also that teams are just guarding us more tightly. We have no O down low, and we need that. Cue Oden. This year, though, unless we get a big who knows how to bruise, probably won't be a playoff year for us.
-I noticed in the game against the Cavs yesterday, that Roy still needs a lot of work. Going head to head against Lebron wasn't even a contest. If you watched the game you'll understand what I mean. Roy was clearly overmatched by Lebron's strength and size. Of course, just a few days before that he schooled Kobe for the first time, so yeah, examining Lebron to Roy isn't a fair comparison. Still though, it's smart to realize that while Roy is a sensational player, he still isn't on the level of being Kobe-esque. He is not one of the elite - many don't think he ever will be bc of his 'good at everything but not great at one thing' description - but we'll wait and see.
In the meantime, Go Blazers!!!! We have an All-Star!!
