Honestly, do you think the Lakers need more offensive help?
How far has Phoenix's high-powered offense/lackluster defense gotten them?
Lakers were top-3 in PPG before the Gasol trade (keep in mind tehyre only behind the two run-and-gun teams in the league, Phoenix and Golden State).
With that said, Lakers pre-Gasol were only 2ppg away from leading the league in the stat. Trading a 4ppg or whatever in Kwame for a 20ppg player in Gasol is more than enough offensive help.
Besides that, Lakers were top-3 in FG% pre-Gasol (only behind Phoenix and Utah). Lakers are only 2FG% off of leading the league. Again, trading a player that goes 2-7 ever game on dunk and layup attempts for Gasol is enough of an upgrade there.
The last thing this Lakers team needs is offense (from a perimeter player moreso). Dont forget, Lakers have Bryant already anchoring the perimeter offense.
What this team needs is defense. A defensive specialist at the 3. Odom doesnt exactly fill that role (neither does Carter), but now that he isnt required to score 20ppg or whatever as the 2nd option, I feel as if his production will only increase. Odom is one of the most versatile players in the league, and wityh this new role, will be able to fill any given niche the team needs depending on the opponent.
Odom + Farmar (keep in mind this will leave the team without a good ballhandling backup guard) for Carter will be nothing more than a disaster.
