you just made my day
AI is a first-shoot, and its good, because unlike Roy, who choked on the final shot, can deliver down the stretch and have proven that he is worth trusting as shoot-first player. Roy takes the most shots by a Blazer, so how is he pass-first? There is that guy that used to play for us, Blake, he's pass first.
Says a nuggets fan who most likely witnessed Roy's amazing shot last season that took Portland to OT with denver. While the Blazers lost, that shot showed that he can hit big clutch shots and can hit game-winners. You probably haven't been following Roy much so I don't hold it against you for not knowing that Roy is one of the better clutch players in the game, but I gurantee that he is big down the stretch and while he missed some shots, he is usually money in the last 8 minutes of the 4th or so. Don't kid yourself, the Nuggets were one Jack turnover away from losing the game but as usually Jarret Jack turned the ball over at a crucial time (nice steal in Kleiza by the way!). Roy had an off night and you can't expect a star to shine every night (his teammates needed to step up more), but once Oden comes into the Mix, Roy will be the perfect guard to play alongside him and could very well help create one of the best guard-center duo's in the NBA.
On your comment about Roy not being pass-first, he is as much of a pass-first SG as you're going to see. AI gets assists but that doesn't make a player pass-first (see: stephon marbury). I'm not in any way comparing Marbury to AI but Roy is pass-first because he always looks to pass to open teammates over taking shots and really looks to get his teammates involved in games in general (even down the stretch). Roy seems to have the natural ability to know when to pass and when to take over offensively, as a PG would and I definitely think of him as a point guard in many ways.
Also, are you saying the Blazers are not a playoff contender right now? I didn't say that they would make the playoffs, I merely called them a contender to make the playoffs this season, not a championship contender if that's what you're thinking I meant.

Actually, they did get a lot better once Roy joined the team and his leadership as a rookie last season was really significant in improving our record by 11 wins. LA is not as essential as Roy (LA's been fairly inconsistent) and while Roy did not play his best game against the nuggets (albeit a decent game), he is the leader on the Blazers and wins games for us night in and night out. Not to take anything away from you but the Blazers' main players were around 3 years ago when the Blazers had the 21 win season. LA's impact has been decent but as I said, not nearly up to Roy's and while Frye was a nice addition, his play isn't mind-boggling. Granted, Oden will return next season and then you have an argument, but as it stands, Roy is the only thing separating the Blazers from winning only 21 games again.
