SAS = least qualified to judge any team.

Exactly, what has Stephen A ever done besides kiss the ass of the best players out there. its really hard to be wrong when you say lebron is the best player out there and the heat are terrible. talk about a madden comment. Our Front office is terrible though
Whether you think you CAN or you think you CAN'T, you're right.

I do understand him when he says the team does not listen. I was thinking the same thing during Detroit game on national TV.

Every timeout, during the 1st qtr, SVG was telling the team to pick up the defensive intensity and they never did.

That's what good teams do, they respond...The game @ Detroit, they didn't and even last night, they didn't.

And what's worse is that they have had great success when they actually DO play defense and yet have to be "begged" to do it more often than not.

No team listens. If they did, there would be no turnovers, solid box outs on every possession, good ball rotation every possession, and defenders would move their feet instead of reaching.

I've coached competitive basketball for 8 years, and I repeat much of the same stuff every time out and on every possession on both ends.

It's the competitive makeup of the player that creates the defensive intensity.

In the case of the Magic, only Dooling has that type of mentality. The others have to be reminded all the time.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

I agree with you about Dooling, but my point is that as a team, the overall intensity comes and goes with this team and if they want to be a championship caliber team, as they say they do, they should not have to be reminded as much about intensity (defensive or offensive) or play with a lack of intesity as much as they do.

But, because this is currently the case, you ESPN analysts agreeing that the Magic are not ready to contend for a championship.

Did anyone expect us to this season?

Contending for a title this year was never ever the goal.

Well that's why we signed Shard to a 50 bajillion dollar deal right?... Because we wanted to win THIS season and couldn't wait for a legit superstar to come around.

IIRC, many of them were predicting that we wouldn't make the playoffs. Of course the goal is always the championship, but you have to get there one step at a time.

I think I agree. I mean, I think I know what your saying, but just worded it funny.

Replace "goal" with "expectation", and I agree.

It's always the goal to win a Championship, but not always expected. Every team would like to win a Championship this season, but not everyone expects it.

Well, yes and no. It's not like we signed him and were like "Okay, now go win a Championship".

As magicmamma said below, it's a process, and signing Rashard was a step in the process.

Because we wanted to win THIS season and couldn't wait for a legit superstar to come around.

We couldn't wait because we couldn't just hold onto cap space. We can't just be like "Hey, Stern, see this column... We're gonna' hang on to this -- this is cap space for when a really good free agents turns up."

We had the space, temporarily, and used it to sign a very good player who is helping our team very much in the process of becoming a Championship team.

"And with Dwight, he's Moses Malone at 22, Shaq at 22 and Tim Duncan.

Becoming a contender is the goal. Not being a contender now. Teams must learn to crawl before they can walk. Otis knew this team wasn't winning a title this year.

Why? Otis is smart enough to know that Boston, Detroit, San Antonio, and Phoenix are not getting any younger. We have set ourselves up to be a team that can win titles when those teams fall off. You don't see Portland looking to overhaul their roster to contend today, we are in that same boat. Patience is a virtue.

And Boston, Detroit, SA and Phx are smart enough to know that they can't just sit back, contend for a couple more years, then become lottery teams and rebuild again.

The will continue to use the draft and free agency to keep their teams contending for and hopefully winning NBA titles for years to come.

IMO we should make a deal to try to put us over the top . We didn't think we would be this good this year . I think most of us thought we would be like a 5-7 seed in the east . Right now were 3rd and we have beaten Boston 2 of 3 (I know KG was out the last one but we beat them with him too) and we have actually beaten Detroit once . We have played all the western conference powerhouses tough . We are not that far from really competing for a title . With the right deal we could be right there .We should never pass up a chance to win now . Obviously we wont trade Dwight and Shard's contract makes you think we can't trade him . Either way Shard is an important piece for this teams future . I hate to give up Hedo but if he can net us a good player at a postion we are weak at (PF, SG,PG ) we should do it. At some point you have to stop the " we will be a contender in a couple of years " talk and say " we wanna win now " .
