Wow. Seems like everyone just took the OPs list and rearranged them. Dunleavy is a shooting guard, Danny Granger is a Small Forward.

1.) LeBron James
2.) Paul Pierce
3.) Richard Jefferson
4.) Caron Butler
5.) Hedo Turkoglu
6.) Danny Granger
7.) Andre Iguodala
8.) Tayshaun Prince
9.) Luol Deng
10.) Gerald Wallace

I'm leaving Marion off because he is more of a 4, even though Miami will probably use him mostly at the 3. Josh Smith is clearly a 4.

1. Lebron James
2. Paul Pierce
3. Shawn Marion
4. Caron Butler
5. Hedo Turkoglu
6. Richard Jefferson
7. Andre Iguodala

9. Gerald Wallace
10. Luol Deng
11. Mike Dunleavy
12. Jamario Moon
13. Quentin Richardson
14. Desmond Mason

I left Marion in because I believe Miami will use him at the 3. I left out Josh Smith because I see him as a 4.

Josh Smith is a PF, IMO... Marion too, but he'll be playing SF in Miami.

I think 2 much is made of SF and PF. IMO I just call them perimeter or post players. You can play a perimeter forward at the 4 position and say your just playing 2 forwards with no real definition. In the past you only had guards, forwards, and a center. Really both guards and forwards spots were interchangeable.

richboy, I tend to think of the denominations, other than point guard which is more stylistic, as based more on defensive assignment. The 1 guards the smallest guy in the game, the 5 the tallest, etc.

As for skills, talent, size tends to come with a certain package . . . when it doesn't it can be very special if the person is unusually talented (Dirk, Magic, etc.) or hurt them (innumberable tweeners with post games and wing size).

The reason the PG position is different is because the extra assignment of bringing the ball up and setting up the offense seems to attract a certain type of player some of whom, Oscar/Magic/young Penny, had forward size.
