As numerous rumours these past days have been rumbling about Sacramento and their rebuilding status, Portland decided to go for it with a deal for Anthony Parker and John Salmons, at the expense of taking on Shareef Abdur-Rahim and his contract.
The GM is quoted to say:
"The Trail Blazers decided to quickly flip the expiring deals of Ricky Davis and Smush Parker to a rebuilding team needing expiring contracts for cap flexibility. While we lose cap flexibility as well, but we finally get back a veteran post presence as well as glue guy who can bind our group of youngsters together.
Losing Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw hurts as they have been our energy guys from the beginning of their young Trail Blazer careers. However, we felt the need to add some more ball-handling in the line-up next to Brandon Roy and Boobie Gibson, so Salmons was acquired and Yi will try and develop here next to LaMarcus and perhaps Greg next year."
"We're glad to welcome back Shareef, he will be a great complimentary player to our young guys, therefore, I believe this deal solidifies the fact that our team wants to compete now as well as the future."
Calls to the GMs of the Kings and Bucks were not immediately returned.
I accept.
after thinking for a while I accept, this trade puts my payroll at $45M
in the off-season I have got a couple of picks and alot of cash to spend
in the free agent market.
you guys may think I am nuts, but this is the direction I am looking to go,
my vision of rebuilding is strating off fresh, I now have cap flexability,
and a franchise player to rebuild around in Martin.
