If we make it to the 2nd round, then I don't see how EG can possibly fire him. (It might still be the right move, but there is no way Abe let's it happen.)

Actually, I think it's more complex than that. If EJ gets us bounced in the first round, it'll not only affect his job but also the decisions of Jamison and Arenas. The time to make a move was last year.

Will do.

I missed last night's game...one of the 2-3 I've missed all season. Judging from the comments--and length of this thread--it was probably a good game to miss.

It sounds like my guy EJ messed up by not playing BH when his defense was needed the most. Yeah, EJ screws up sometimes, some of you would probably say alot, but he's not going to get fired when he's playing with a decimated lineup and relying on guys who should be the 9th or 10th player off the bench. The whole world recognizes that so those of you calling for EJ to get fired should probably just get over it. It ain't happening during the season. Given how well this team played before CB went down (even without GA), I believe most fans (and Abe and EG) think EJ has earned the right to show what he can do with a healthy lineup.

Heck, most of you guys probably expected last night's game to be over by halftime and the Zards to lose by 30 points. The only reason we're even having this emotionally-charged discussion about the Warriors game and people are, once again, screaming for EJ to be fired, is because the Zards (and their coach) made the game competitive.

DCZ, I grew up with an alcoholic mom. Painful when someone you love is messing up and even worse when it directly affects you.

NO BS from me, Eddie needs to stop jerking Haywood around and he needs to stop riding Darius' jock.

Play Haywood more, I mean 38 mins at this point and don't play Darius, but instead use ANYBODY ... try McGuire.

And the isolations with Young are hurting more than they help at this point.

I truly believe Mason and Stephenson can get by in the backcourt and that Brendan needs to be just behind a healthy Butler and Jamison in minutes.

Eddie's making his own coaching career tougher.

If he would just follow these three rules: 1.Play Haywood and don't sit him much. 2. Don't play Songaila more than 2-5 minutes, here and there. 3. End the games with Haywood on the court.

MOST OF ALL: Check out what nate, myself, and others have dug up concerning HOW MUCH BETTER THIS TEAM IS WITH HAYWOOD ON THE COURT and forget whatever bias you have against Brendan.

This is madness what Eddie's doing.

I hate to see anybody fail but he's screwed up big time and IMO is lucky to have job security.

I agree, if we get bounced in the first round then it's time to shake this core up because it's obviously not working.

^ And that's why I'm willing to make moves now instead of waiting until the summer when our future will be in the hands of two unrestricted free agents.

He didn't get the benefit of our runs in the first half to help him out and he was saddled by playing most of his second half minutes with Songaila as his center which created layup after layup for the Warriors (not to mention a little help from the officials).

What Young did wrong was continuing to take contested shot after contested shot without looking to pass. However, he's young and immature. Eddie Jordan is neither and he completely ceded control of the offense for about 4 or 5 key minutes to a shot jacking rookie. He's the one who is supposed to restrain Nick in that situation.

I was even impressed at times with Young's defense so I think he did okay in a tough situation. The plus/minus doesn't do justice to how he played IMO.

Again, I didn't see the game. And I am troubled by EJ's repeated practice of inserting a player for big minutes down the stretch after little or no PT earlier in the game. Plus Young is a rookie, and am immature one at that.

So Boo EJ.

But the numbers for Young are downright damning.

In his 4 minutes of play in the 1Q, Young was -3. Young was -2 in the the first minute of the 2Q and then went to the bench.

After sitting for the next 20 minutes of game action, Young then played (inexplicably), the final 15 minutes of the game at a whopping -15 clip.

Here's a breakdown of how his teammates did with Young versus their production w/o him:

Haywood: +1 with, +13 without.
Mason: -14 with, +5 without.
Blatche: -11 with, -4 without
Jamison: -18 with, +18 without
McGuire: -8 with, +12 without
Stevenson: -19 with, +28 without
and the much maligned Songaila: -13 with, +11 without!

The only player who was net positive with Young was Haywood, and that was +1 in their only 5 minutes on the court together.

It seems to me that the numbers say that Eddie's choice to play Young was the main choice that lost the Wizards the game. Fascinating.

All I can say is that I'm glad I went to bad at halftime. Despite the 18 point lead at the half, I had the feeling that GS would make a run and possibly win the game. Part of my feeling was because I knew that E.J. rarely goes with something that is working, and that was feeding the ball to Haywood. The other reason is that I knew the GS has the same type of personnel as the Sixers and I felt that they would really force the tempo and pressure our guards in the second half. I just didn't want to watch a potential melt like the Sixers game. Man, did I make the right decision.

fisher, I said above that if EJ wanted to have Young in there to create shots (jack shots) then he really needed Haywood because Brendan's the best offensive rebounder on the team.

Young was bad but what was killing the Wizards most was the double whammy of epically bad proportions: Songaila with Young.

No defense, no rebounding, with bad shots is just damningly bad.

CCJ, the numbers agree that the Songaila-Young tandem was a bad one for the Wiz. But Songaila was a significant net positive without Young on the floor. In fact, all the Wizards were except for Blatche (who seemed to have a pretty crummy game from the game flow).

Again, I agree that EJ is to blame for not recognizing and reacting to this, but Young was the worst player on the court by far.

With Songaila in the game in the 4th quarter, he was not a net positive. In fact, Golden State had the proverbial layup line to the basket without Haywood in there and access to pretty much every available rebound.

Your right though, playing AND isolating Nick Young on seemingly every other offensive possession late in game was about as whacked out decision as a coach could make.

Okay, so let's shift from hating on Darius because he was GOOD WITHOUT NICK. (??)

I think Gilbert0Arenas in the other thread is right: Eddie just doesn't like Brendan.

Why? Andray Blatche was negative with and without Nick, and Andray Blatche finishes games now when Brendan's on the bench.

That's bad coaching and IMO a bias against Haywood.

How can EJ NOT SEE that Brendan doesn't give up layups or foul nearly as much as Andray does?

How can EJ NOT SEE that Brendan's raised his game to the point he's very effective scoring or getting fouled, and that team's are COLLAPSING ON HAYWOOD?

At the very least, Haywood frees up perimter shooters to jack those threes that have gone in a lot this year.

Eddie Jordan ending games with Young and Blatche on the floor and Haywood on the bench just shows the extent to how much he dislikes Brendan.

Some argue that EJ subbed out Haywood in order to better match up with Al Harrington. There would be logic to that statement if Darius Songaila happened to be a better perimeter defender than Haywood. Unfortunately, he isn't. I'd rather have Haywood and his long arms guarding Harrington at the 3-point line than Songaila.
