how many teams are 1 trade away from being a contender

Post#1 » by rutheredfox » Thu Feb 14, 2008 12:59 am

so far i'd say
SA, Boston, Suns, Mavs, Pistons, Lakers, and the hornets are the only legitimate contenders in the leauge. so how many teams are now 1 trade away from being a contender? obviously out of the players available. i'd say the warriors are a contender if we traded for JO or even artest.

One *GOOD* trade where they get the best player: Warriors, Nuggets, Hornets, Houston, Cleveland, Orlando

Not even close this year even after a trade: Toronto and the rest of the Eastern Conference.

How is Houston only one "Good" trade away? They have 2 top 10 players in the league along with a defensive stopper a decent bench and some good scoring options in Bonzi and James. I say that is a contender easily.

Warriors, and Washington are bad overall defensivly. I don't think there 1 player could change them enough to be good enough defensivly to have a legitamte shot at winning a championship.

I'de say Utah, and Houston could add a guy to have a real shot at a title. Maybe the Blazers could be a contender nect year if they added someone really good, while getting Oden back, and Roy, and LA improve. Cleveland's hard to say. If they got a mircle trade (gasolesque) They'd have a shot imo.

You don't think that the Warriors would have been contenders if they had Pau Gasol on their team?

They have the best record in the Western Conference since the return of Stephen Jackson. And even against the Jazz in the playoffs, we got outrebounded by a tremendous amount of rebounds a game but only lost by about 4-8 points in each loss. All we need is one rebounder/post presence and we'll be fine.

No I don't. They're near the bottom of the league in defense, and rebounding which are important things in the playoffs. I don't see 1 guy that could help so much to get their defence, and rebounding to a level that would be near the top of the league where it should be to win a title. I doubt Gasol would help that much in those areas.

Toronto is set in our PG position and PF position. With Bargs developing, and a traded-for star they'd be a contender.

Plus Raps have alot of expiring contracts next year.

I agree T-Mac is not a top 10 player, but you have been the most negative person against the Rockets.

If Orlando had a real starting backcourt, we'd be edging up on Boston and Detroit.

umm.....Toronto is most def. one trade away from being a contender.

as for my own views:

Toronto
Orlando
Cleveland
Utah
Golden State

are the only teams that are one good player away from being contenders

Houston is not a contender because Tmac has been a career loser.

When you supposed best player is a career loser its hard to see you as a contender.

Don't worry man, don't take it personal. The guy's negative on any team not named the Suns.
