The series was 3-2 in favor of the Suns and Dirk had shot 36% and the Mavs lost. Since you decided to conveniently use game 5s, then I'll use games where the series is on the line.

lmfao, you can't be serious.

i'm using game 5s genius because that was the equivalent of a game 7 a few seasons ago. I only used game 5s in the first round because it was a best-of-FIVE series, i didn't randomly pull up game 5s. go ahead do the research when the series is on the line between both of them and we'll see who does better.

and what's the importance of a game 7 in a 7 game series and a game 5 in a 5 game series? The potential of losing and going home. They're all literally must-wins. You're telling me that losing when your team is down 3-2 is more acceptable?

Yea, my research tells me that KG never lost to a team, when with homecourt except to the 3-peat Lakers. and the year he was MVP, he took his team to the WCFs, opposed to a first round exit.

I don't expect KG to win a series when his team is inferior whether by talent or record-wise but I do expect a MVP on a 67 win team will get past the first round. Obviously you made that exception.

go ahead dude, compile some stats for elimination games for both dirk and KG. i agree they're important as well

i didn't make any exceptions, i just saw game 7s and game 5s where applicable like the thread asked. KG can't compare to Dirk in them, let's see if they're comparable in elimination games.

Well after watching Dirk down the stretch in the all-star game gimme KG.

Garnett appeared to take the critique to heart and had a huge game with 31 points, 18 rebounds and four assists, all team highs. He even got some help from teammates Wally Szczerbiak and Chauncey Billups, who scored 25 points apiece. And it still wasn't enough to beat Dallas.

Nowitzki nearly matched Garnett with 31 points and 15 boards. Finley scored 28 points and contributed eight boards. Nash added 17 points and 10 assists. And it didn't stop there.

I think they were nearly equals in that series. Nowitzki might even had the edge.

The next year against the Lakers this is what KG did.

Minnesota also got a huge game from Kevin Garnett, who collected a playoff career-high 35 points, 20 rebounds and seven assists. Garnett notched his second double-double of the series.

My goodness. I have completely forgotten Dirk put up those beastly stats.
I guess 2 poor playoff series would last longer in the minds of people than countless good series.

Hehe. Funny, though. By the way people have been putting Dirk down, I was under the impression his average in the playoffs is something like 15/7/35%

Point taken, but to be fair, KG beat the Kings, but Dirk beat the SPURS. Also, when it comes to leading crappy teams (Minny >>>>>> German team) to success, Dirk is a master. He is basically the only German guy above NBDL level, and still Germany is able to beat Spain.

Exactly, and in that year, they took the Lakers to 6 games while playing with the 3rd PG cause Cassel and Hudson were both hurt.

that was a great series..I remember every call going to the Lakers..I remember a horrible call with Wally "fouling" Kobe that eventually tied the game..then KG fouled out a minute into OT, where Anthony Peeler/Troy Hudson carried the team IIRC..great series..

international bball suits better for dirk because he doesn't face these athletic defenders that he faces in the nba. don't get me wrong, I love what he's doing for us in the NT but the international game is easier for him to dominate than in the NBA because teams now know how to stop him

as for the topic: well I still remember how much of a beast dirk can be in the PO (I could recall all these great performances prior to his last 2 series) so it's tough to me to judge it. being a minny fan I saw a lot of KG action and I can quite well remember his 3 last PO appearances. when he had talent here he was a freaking beast but he never was that guy you give the ball for the last shot. he found other ways to dominate but sometimes whenever he felt like it's needed to step up, he actually did. ask the kings fans how he dismantled them...

overall I'd take KG but this is such a close distance between them. the reason why I take KG is (being a former KG homer aside) that KG always finds a way to dominate but when Dirk is quite locked up by an athletich defender he can't do that much to help his team or at least he couldn't so far. I really like it that Dirk started passing quite well this season.
