The first rounder is not a big deal or the Spurs since if its this years pick it stands to be only a few picks away from the second round anyway.

In this case, i'm glad we didn't get Thomas.....

I know we suck at drafting, but i'd rather have a first rounder than a three month rental.

Wilcox isn't worth a first... period.

Otis needs to bargain shop with our expirings, we have the key pieces we need. No need to spend our draft picks if we don't need too.

So, instead of sending Barry + Elson + 1st rounder for Artest, they got Kurt Thomas? LOL

Kurt Thomas was an expiring contract, while Wilcox has another year on his contract. So he was a little more valuable in terms of he's a quick fix with no future repercussions (like taking on a big contract).

There would be no reason for Seattle to do the deal if it wasn't for the 1st rounder, as they swapped expirings for expirings.

The Magic can offer Seattle expiring contracts for Wilcox, which is just as important to Seattle as picks are. In fact it may be more important now that they have so many 1st rounders. Eventually they're going to have to start looking to free agency instead of just loading up young talent.

well KT is def not worth a 1st round pick even if he stayed past 3 months but def. would have helped us

I would rather wilcox just don't see it happening so I guess we will stay put

Hopefully we get Battie back for the playoffs

While I really wanted Thomas, it was not worth giving up a big like Elson and a first round pick.

Good thing Otis Smith did not pay the asking price.

Brent Barry will accept a buyout and will probably

1. Retire
2. Sign with Boston/PHX/Lakers

I'm really confused by this deal, like one poster said, wouldn't this same deal have netted them Artest? And granted, I think Artest is more trouble than he's worth, but its hard to believe they had to give up expiring contracts AND a pick for a guy that Seattle has no plans for long-term.

Saying that Wilcox is not worth exprings and a late first round pick is kind of silly in my opinion. He is signed for another year after this one on a very affordable contract and provides low post scoring and some rebounding. He only plays D when he wants to but he is definitely worth a late first.
