We in houston would like to wish Snyder good luck in Minnesota and we are very excited about bring Gerald Green home. I think as a Houston fan this works out great for both teams. However I think Gerald is going to make some of you guys pretty upset. He is back home and on a playoff contending team. So he will be working hard to prove he belongs in this league!! If he doesnt he will not be brought back it is just that simple!!!

Just saw on NBA.com that the pick is a 2010 2nd. We also get cash considerations.

Also it doesn't make sense to compare 2 and half years for Green to half a rookie season for Brewer. It's also not fair to compare NBA stats to college stats. No perfect way to do it. Obviously Green has a better jump shot, I never said he didn't, but his shot selection detracts from it so much. In the end all that matter is the %. That is the stat that objectively combines shot selection and ability to shoot a jump shot.
Yes, and for the first two years of his career Gerald's shot selection was good enough to result in a TS% (what really matters in shooting efficiency, not FG%) of over .52%. But when you use the FG% he had this year as an indicator of his shot selection that is flat out falty, because his shot selection was nearly identical last year and he was able to score efficiently. Over his career Green still has a .51 TS%, and that's in only slightly over double the minutes Corey has played (posting a .40 TS%, which is absolutely horrendous).
Corey does a lot of things better than Gerald, shooting/scoring isn't one of them, and probably never will be.

I drink the GG kool-aid and think the kid could be a very good player. I think Brewer will be the better player by quite a margin. His upside is similar to GG and does those "other things" like they are 2nd nature. Improving his shot shouldn't be that hard when you consider GG has to learn the entire game of basketball outside of shooting well and jumping high.

I have explicitly stated my agreement with that statement in this thread, I'm just illustrating that Green really needs to work on his shot selection.
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

We might want to keep those 2nds ourselves. (yeah, you're hearing this from the trade guy)
They work great for plucking the best players in the second round, and stashing them over in Europe. We're going to have a pretty full roster over the next two years, especially if we bring back our RFA's, and we probably have three guaranteed contracts next season coming in with the MIN, MIA, and BOS pick. Trading for a first for this year might make things a little dicey, and force us into moves we really don't want to do based solely on contract and roster space.

Also, remember mid-second round picks are huge longshots to ever do anything in the NBA, and are often just used as the grease to make a trade work -- just like in this case. As another example, we owe a 2nd rounder because of adding Dupree a few years back.
They generally are just the grease to get deals done, but here's an example of how unlikely they are to produce a legitimate player. I listed the last 20 years worth of the 46th pick, which would today be mid second round. Thanks DraftExpress!
