IMHO the GOAT wing player is DrJ

Why Mosses isnt on the list is distrubing since hes better than half the Cs mentioned. He and DrJ were a bad Mama Jama....

I honestly think Pippen would have been a great teammate of Wilts. Wilt is pretty much a 7'2" Pippen in that he can do everything well.

I believe Bird and Russell are a great combo as well. As long as Russell has good hands hes going to get enough easy looks from Bird. Russell makes up for Birds weakness and Birds scoring works well with Russell.

ThaRegul8r wrote:When some people talk about Shaquille O'Neal, they bring up the quality of wingmen he's played with in his career, Anfernee Hardaway, Kobe Bryant, and Dwayne Wade, when you've got all-time centers who never in their careers played with any wingmen of that caliber.

So who in your opinion would be the top 5 wingmen (of any to have ever played the game, in their prime and with modern medicine, training methods, etc.) to suit each of the following centers in ascending order from 5 to 1, and explain how you think their games would blend well with these centers.

1. Wilt Chamberlain
2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
3. Hakeem Olajuwon
4. Bill Russell
5. Moses Malone
6. David Robinson
7. Patrick Ewing

He is on the list.
I remember your posts from the RPOY project, you consistently brought it. Please continue to do so, sir. This board needs guys like you to counteract ... worthless posters

I see what you mean: it would be a hell of the team, though personally I'd rather select among guys being more of 2-way players. ;-)

David Robinson: MJ. A top-notch scoring wing would go well with a defensive oriented big, IMO. If you want a less obvious answer, I'd go with Sam Jones, who proved to be the ideal compliment to the ultimate defense/rebounding center, and is easily one of the most underrated (if not the most underrated) players ever.

I fully agree: also chose MJ.

Patrick Ewing: Ewing was such a complete center

Except bad hands and being unclutch. ;-) Also not a great athlete.

I think I'd want a guy with a great all-around game to match with him. If you can count Oscar Robinson as a wing (I know he was a PG, but he could play either guard spot equally well) I'd pick him. If not, maybe Hondo or Pippen.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have Oscar Robertson. :-)

Hakeem and Bird would be sick.

I know you prefer players from older eras, but frankly speaking even if counting only them I'd rather have Baylor, Havlicek and theoretically also Barry - if he only had better mentality.

Why Mosses isnt on the list is distrubing since hes better than half the Cs mentioned. He and DrJ were a bad Mama Jama....

What the OP said.

I honestly think Pippen would have been a great teammate of Wilts. Wilt is pretty much a 7'2" Pippen in that he can do everything well.

Well, to cover about the only weakness of Wilt - FT shooting and so propensity for being fouled in deciding moments - I'd rather give him a teammate more clutch than Pippen to whom he might kick the ball then - Havlicek, Kobe, Reggie or Bird.

I believe Bird and Russell are a great combo as well. As long as Russell has good hands hes going to get enough easy looks from Bird. Russell makes up for Birds weakness and Birds scoring works well with Russell.

I concur as to Bird - Russell (as to my first post - I didn't list all great combos possible, just examples of them using every great C and every great wing only once).

Yes, though it obviously concerns every pairing of great 2-way center with great clutch perimeter player.
From one side: Hakeem, Wilt or Kareem. To the lesser extent - Walton, Mourning, Willis Reed, D. Robinson. In future - prolly Dwight. From the other: West, Havlicek, Kobe, Bird, Frazier, Wade (though lacks range), even Reggie Miller or Sam Jones - though these 2 are more 1-dimensional. ANY combo of these guys from both categories constitutes a core good enough to build a dynasty around it.

Just when my day was grinding down, this nugget of comedy gold graces my screen. Thank you, Rock! Your budding career as a stand-up might yet come to fruition.

You know, I wouldn't say I am the one who takes our conversation personally. Au contraire, I find it rather amusing. Are you going to post something else funny here? :D
