Jeff Van Gundy

Is anyone else surprised by how entertaining and funny this guy is as an announcer? Every time I saw him coaching in NY and Houston, he looked like he was a dull guy who never slept. I actually enjoy listening to him do play by play. What does everyone think about JVG?

Yes. I <3 JVG to death. I'm glad there's someone on here that feels the same way about him as I do.

Oh yeah. And I had that same impression on him too. He seemed like those mean old grumpy people who needed a lot of sleep. I kind of felt sad for him because he looked so depressed on the sideline all the time. But once you get to actually hear him broadcast, he's really a great guy.

He was great in his short stint on TNT (I think it was TNT...) when it was him, the Czar and Marv.

Ya, I mean, the guy breathes so much life into the game; guys like Breen and Jackson are too calculating and pompous, taking a lot of the fun out of the spectacle. It almost seems as if Breen tries to say **** to JVG during the broadcast to try and make himself look more superior to him. Anyone agree?

Yeah, the dude is filled with jokes. He had some good ones during the Phx-Detroit game last week.

and when he asked if you're allowed to pop the shirt when you're down today during the Dal-LAL game

JVG is fearless, i cannot wait till he returns to coach the Knicks at some point in the next 10 years.

We need a coach who isn't afraid to hump Alonzo Mourning's leg.

I like JVG too. I loved his 'box and 1' comment on Kobe. "If I'm the Mavs I'd go with a box and 1, put the box on Kobe and the 1 on everybody else."

I'm also fond of Marc Jackson, they compliment each other well IMO.

Good stuff. Great game BTW.

He also made a great call on the Kobe/Bass matchup on the freethrow lane. Exactly what he said happened, Kobe grabbed the offensive board over Bass.

I like Van Gundy and Mark Jackson better than Chick and Stu.

man this abc broadcast team used to suck so freaking bad. JVG has brought some life into this mix and the three seem to gel nicely. I really think abc has inproved there commentating (At least with this specific team).

I love JVG, is is FAR better than the rest of the crew. He's funny, smart, and he understands the game in the way the others can't. I don't like Breen (he doesn't seem to know much and tries to put JVG down during the cast :nonono: ), and Jackson is definitely a Laker homer, but I like him ok.

But JVG is definitely the shining star of the ESPN crew. Extremely entertaining.

"My MVP so far is the Memphis Organization."

"Erick Dampier is a human illegal screen."

He has me cracking up pretty good every game, love the humorous attitude.

i like him but today he was just sounding so biased towards the lakers

and i about sh*t a brick when the whole **** crew were in agreeance that damp shouldve been called for a flagrant, if that was a flagrant foul that wouldve just been flat out embarrasment. thats 1 of the things i hate about this league, there are no hard fouls anymore, b/c 75% of the time people call into question or expect a flagrant foul. damp was just a great example of a hard foul

SVG funnier, but Jeff does have a personality.

Great call on the Kobe rebound over Bass.
