That sucks. What if he heals ahead of schedule and the alternative chinese medication is effective? And didn't he say if the Finals were now he would play??

3 or 4 months. we dont want him to rush back in anyway even if he wanted to play. let him heal properly and come back next year ready to go.

None whatsoever. Not even the finals. It's basically guaranteed that he's not going to play anytime till next season.

He said he would play in the Finals if the Rockets reached it, but that would be a horrible idea especially when you look at the closest comparison to our situation (Knicks in '99.) If by some slim chance we reach the Finals, that means we would have already figured out how to prevent larger line ups from beating up on our relatively small frontline and grabbing second chance points. Having a recovering Yao who would have barely made a dent in rehabilitation at that point just slip into the lineup would screw everything up.
Shaq during a 2005 interview wrote:"It all started with Hakeem. In my mind, it all ends with Hakeem. He's No. 1. No question. Always will be. I saw it up close."

yeah. i mean getting into the finals without yao, and then just put him up there in the lineup would kinda distract the team's momentum a tiny weeny bit
