Is he the best player on the team? No. Should he be the best player on the team and could very easily with just a few adjustments, YES! It would be best for everyone and the team. The team would be better for it. AI is here to win a Chip, not to fully defer and wait on Melo to "get it" and grow to his full potential. Same with Karl to a point (but that's not an excuse to coach poorly). But I would bet anything that AI is dying for him to be the man and lead this team with a full head of steam.
Melo has the size, Physic and scoring ability to be on the same level or better than Lebron, but he's not there yet and I don't know if he'll ever be (I hope so). It has alot to do with coaching, but some things he should figure out on his own. He's definitely the most inconsistent player out of him, Wade and Lebron, especially in maturity.
you've me there. that's a great post.
but PLEASE realize that melo is making strides.
he was a terrible man defender last year and the worst help defender in the league (IMO). this year he has become a decent man defender and puts actualy effort into the defense end, although he does give up the occasional three on defense (still bad help defense).
he was described as a one-dimensional volume shooter early in his career. he has changed into a multi-dimensional (7.5 rpg) offensive juggernaut (25.9 ppg, 47.5% FG).
he struggles with a few things:
- help defense (always overcommits)
- turnovers (weren't a factor tonight)
- leadership (he lets his emotions get the best of him)
- the double teams (needs to see the whole court and see the double coming)
but he is still a top 10 player who is getting better every year.
