But I think it is interesting people are only giving the celtics 2 season to win a ring. Pierce is 30 years old! It is not like he will just fall off the edge of the earth in 2 years. Same with KG and Ray...
Players careers are getting longer and longer, Nash has been terrific in the last few years and he is 34. Stockton and Malone played in the late thirties very successfully and so on.
We will see where the teams will be in two seasons. One thing I know is that it is nice to have a talented young team but it can also be very frustrating. It is always about hoping this and that player develops it is always looking ahead to the next draft. You almost forget how it feels to win. I will take the present over future every time!
Good luck to you and hopefully we meet in the playoffs!
There's about a 2 year window of greatness...it's not like you'll be back at the bottom of the league in 2 years. You'll probably compete for the conference title, but age/injuries catch up, and the team will need to re-tool. Rondo may be a star in the making, but they'll probably need more than that once the big three start to decline.
My point was simply that the two franchises will (hopefully) pass each other going in opposite directions...you are on top now, and only can go down, we're hoping the Sixers trajectory continues upward to the top. It's about a 2 year targeted window for both to happen.
As far as the ages...Doc's averages went down after 30-31, David Robinson averaged 25 at age 30, and only got over 20 once after that. Stockton showed a decline after 30, as did Reggie Miller.
If all three can maintain consistency like Karl Malone, the Celtics can be great for the next three years, but the odds are they will have some decline after about 2 seasons. It's a great time to be a NE/Boston fan...enjoy the ride.
