Make that 8. Howard and Jeferson signed huge extensions that start next year. They both are at 13M+/yr and this is just the last year of their rookie contracts.

Players careers are getting longer and longer, Nash has been terrific in the last few years and he is 34. Stockton and Malone played in the late thirties very successfully and so on.

I think we agree that the Celtics won't fall off the cliff in 3 years. They just wont be as good then as they are now. That doesn't mean they won't still be better than the Sixers, but they likely won't be the odds on favorite for a ring like they are now.

If the celtics are forward thinking the big three will not be intact in 3-4 years so that they can infuse some cheaper young talent in with their veteran nucleus.

We will see where the teams will be in two seasons. One thing I know is that it is nice to have a talented young team but it can also be very frustrating. It is always about hoping this and that player develops it is always looking ahead to the next draft. You almost forget how it feels to win. I will take the present over future every time!

Good luck to you and hopefully we meet in the playoffs!

Most fans here wanted the Sixers to tank the last 2 years and build their talent base. For whatever reason the team has played nearly 500 ball since last years AI trade, and the young talent seems to play way over their heads.

It is much more fun to watch a 500 young team then a really bottom level team like the rebuilding Celtics were. On the flip side we won't be able to draft a franchise player being a young middle of the pack team- at least we can go after a star with our cap space.)

You guys have to admit though we did miss a lot of wide open shots, im not saying anything but all the times during the zone when the sixers went into the pain they go NO CALLS. Honestly we got freaking slapped around and becasue the C's have three stars they didn't call anything. Becasue we were suppose to be the worst team i the league going into the year the refs didnt call anything. im sure if we play in the playoffs we will get more calls because most games are national televised and the refs have to make those calls. we easily should have gotten an extra 10-15 free throws.

We missed 11 FT's as it was. I agree, if you get past your defender then you should get the benefit of the doubt in the lane- but no one wanted to call any body contact against KG.

Some credit goes to the Celtics agressive style of defense. Much like the Sixers under LB, if you are agressive they won't call every foul against you.

This was a very frustrating game, because it's not like we were outplayed or outhustled.

What it came down to was putting the ball in the hoop, and last night, the
Sixers struggled mightily to hit open jump shots. We make a couple more open 3s and hit a few more FTs, we're talking about a great win instead of a tough loss.

And while I'm a huge Iggy fan, he played the whole game off balance and out of control. I like the effort (on both sides of the ball) but that was definitly one of his bad games.

But ehh, it happens, and we just need to move on and try to salvage the rest of the week.

Sorry to be unclear. Al signed for 5yr/65M = 13M/yr on average, but starts lower the first year.

Most people talk about Iguodala turning down the 5yr/57M as a 11M+ contract, even though it would start at just under 10M next year.

I had celts fans in my office come up to me and talked about how amazed they are by Thad Young. I can't argue.

There's about a 2 year window of greatness...it's not like you'll be back at the bottom of the league in 2 years. You'll probably compete for the conference title, but age/injuries catch up, and the team will need to re-tool. Rondo may be a star in the making, but they'll probably need more than that once the big three start to decline.

My point was simply that the two franchises will (hopefully) pass each other going in opposite directions...you are on top now, and only can go down, we're hoping the Sixers trajectory continues upward to the top. It's about a 2 year targeted window for both to happen.

As far as the ages...Doc's averages went down after 30-31, David Robinson averaged 25 at age 30, and only got over 20 once after that. Stockton showed a decline after 30, as did Reggie Miller.

If all three can maintain consistency like Karl Malone, the Celtics can be great for the next three years, but the odds are they will have some decline after about 2 seasons. It's a great time to be a NE/Boston fan...enjoy the ride.
