It just blows my mind that you want the FANS in Oklahoma City, who are longing for a team just as much as people in Seattle are, to have a miserable experience with the franchise...

Here's where you're wrong.

You haven't got a team yet.

I posted earlier, and will say this again: This thread is going nowhere good. I tried to let this thing die out, as neither side is going to be backing down, but you guys just kept bringing it up.

Let's just let this die.

I apologize for any OKC fans that have been over here and have given you a bad impression. I guarantee that they make up a minority, as most people in OKC are more respectful and well-mannered.

...but have you ever been to OKC? It's not THAT bad.

The property value (and other values) is so ridiculous for the money. You get so much house/car/whatever for what you pay for.

I have never been to OKC but have family that has lived there for close to 20 years.... and they cant stand it! The only reason they stay is because of the cost of living. One cousin just moved to Seattle apx 6 months ago and he didnt have a single good thing to say about the place and vowed to never go back.

The N.O. Hornets went 18-64 the year before moving to OKC, and OKC had the 8th best attendance in the league, for the team coming off of the worst record in the league.

Does the word novelty mean anything? Of course OKC people were going to come out if full force, its a brand new shinny toy. But what happens when the shinny toy is old and played out? There is zero evidence that OKC will still pack the arena every night where as Seattle has over 40 yrs on its resume.

I guarantee you that players would rather play for a smaller, less "flashy" city with an excited, packed house on gamenight than a more populated, more city-like city with worse attendance. If anything, I would think playing in OKC is more of an incentive than it is a deterrent.

Now this truly shows your knowledge of the NBA and large markets. Unless a player is from a small town, which a majority are not, or a small market is willing to extremely overpay for a player no NBA player wants to play for a small market team. Name a free agent of significance that has ever signed with a small market... maybe Boozer but he's a small town guy. Stars dont get endorsements playing for teams in OKC, Memphis, Milwaukee, etc. Young rich men want to be able to enjoy their money... nightlife, women, etc.

Im not trying to dog OKC people just telling the truth.

I think sweezo brought up a good point... which you have failed to address. If you really just want to talk about basketball why is it that you only post when it is concerning OKC? Cut the crap man. While you might be right about the majority of OKC fans being well-mannered, it is safe to say that the majority of OKC fans online are nothing more then Vultures.

I want to address the idea the Seattle doesn't or wont sell out key arena and therefore players would rather play in OKC because they have a packed house.

1. If for the last 6 years the sonics hadn't had inept ownership or now an owner out of the movie major league then the key would be packed. In the 90's that place was loud and ruckus. Its really hard to continue to go out to games when ownership makes no moves, or makes moves to intentionally make you worse so the team will be easier to move.

2. OKC was trying to prove a point during the two years the Hornets were there. They wanted to show the NBA that they could support the team. Also tickets were discounted. What is OKC going to do when they have a team for real but they suck for 6 straight years? I doubt there will be sell outs there. Surely no one would question that the pacers and 76ers have good fan bases, but those two teams are last in attendance. WHy is that? because those teams suck.

ACT I: SCENE I: A MICROCOSM OF THIS THREAD

Husband: I can't believe you'd do this to me...after 40 years of being together, I can't believe I'd be in this situation.
Wife: [says nothing, appears noncommital]
New Boyfriend: Come on honey, let's go...
Husband: How dare you! Have you no shame, doing this right in front of my face?
Wife: [says nothing, appears noncommital]
New Boyfriend: Hey, I've spent alot of money on her. I deserve her.
Husband: But I've done nothing to deserve to lose her. I've been with her for a long time, supported her fully through her ups and downs. And she's still her with me and hasn't left yet.
New Boyfriend: Yeah...as I said, I've spent alot of money on her. I deserve her more. Trying to find another woman and build a relationship isn't something I'm interested in...seems preferable to just take yours from you.
Wife: [says nothing, appears noncommital]
New Boyfriend's Friend: [approaches Husband] Hey, buddy...listen. I wanted to talk to you about your wife...
Husband: [remains silent, glares]
New Boyfriend's Friend: ...I mean, she's just a wonderful person, and we're excited to bring her into the fold. And I think it would be fun to talk with you, the person who may be losing her and has a deep emotional connection to her, about how great she really is...
Husband: I do not want to talk to you.
New Boyfriend's Friend: ...and I'm not here to talk about her leaving. Nope. Not. At. All. But you do know she's leaving right? Have I told you that? I mean, that's CLEARLY not what I'm here to talk to you about...about her leaving you, even though she is...not here to talk about that. Just want to talk about her great she is. Even though she's leaving you...
Husband: I do not want to talk to you.
New Boyfriend's Friend: ...and I don't think we're stealing her from you. I mean, we deserve her, because...well...uhhh...because starting a new relationship with a woman who isn't married is really just too much work, you know? And isn't she just fantastic?
Husband: I do not want to talk to you.
New Boyfriend's Friend: ...oh, the things we'll talk about, you and I! Because I don't pick up on the subtle hints you're dropping about not wanting to engage me in conversation. This conversation we're going to have, about how great your wife is, even though she's leaving you for us, is going to be GREAT!
Husband: *sigh* That's it. I don't like you. I view you as a vulture. Get away from me.
New Boyfriend's Friend: WHAT?! How dare you be rude to me! I'm only trying to have a conversation with you that you'll find genuinely irritating, and despite your continued attempts to turn me away I'm not picking up on it, and am still trying to engage you in conversation! How dare you!
Husband: I thought I'm made myself clear. I don't like you. I view you as a vulture. I have nothing good to say about you, or anything nice to say to you. Please leave...
New Boyfriend's Friend: Well, if that's the way you're going to be...I'm just going to let this conversation die off.
Husband: ...
New Boyfriend's Friend: I mean it! I'm going to stop talking to you!
Husband: ...
New Boyfriend's Friend: ...starting right now!
Husband: ...
New Boyfriend's Friend: Yep! Time for me to leave and hit the ol' dusty trail...can't sit here and talk to you all day...
Husband: ...
New Boyfriend's Friend: So, I bid you adieu! Good day, sir! I...
Husband: ...
New Boyfriend's Friend: ...am...
Husband: ...
New Boyfriend's Friend: ...done...

Great post Sweezo, though I think you should have thrown the poor lotto analogy in there for good measure . . .

Yep. Already have my three day pass for Sasquatch...can't wait!

Interesting bit of personal trivia: Flaming Lips were the first band I ever saw live.
