Derek Fisher. He's a better shooter right now.

Sam Cassell EASILY. Fisher may be a better long range shooter but Cassell's decision making and shot selection is MUCH better, and he can actually finish at the rim.

Fisher, without a doubt. More durable, better shooter, better defender.

Sam with out a doubt in my mind.

Fisher loses so many games for his teams when he puts his head down and drives to the hoop like there is nobody else on his team. It's truly devastating to watch. On top of that his defense is so overrated it's unbelievable.

Cassell; Fisher's value as a defender is primarily on account of his willingness and ability to take charges, not as a man-on defender.

He's a better 3pt shooter but considerably less effective as an isolation/mid-range scorer and playmaker/distributor.

Sam I Am has a lot more value at present than does Fisher. Fisher is more valuable somewhere like L.A. where his role is fairly simple and his perimeter shot is more valuable than the other skills at which Cassell is vastly superior.

Really? So if you have the choice between Fisher or Cassell as a back-up point guard for the Raptors, you'd rather have Sam?

I think the big thing here is that Derek Fisher is so much more durable and mobile, he can do a lot more things on the court due to his physical abilities. I'm not disagreeing Cassell is more versatile on offense, that's true. But how many minutes can he give you, 10, maybe 12 good minutes a game? Derek Fisher is playing some of the best ball he's ever played and is able to play at a high level as a starter.

Absolutely. The Raptors need shot creators, not stand-still shooters, we have tons of those.

Actually, about 25, that's what he was giving the Clippers before the trade while he was averaging about 12 and 5.

Fisher is shooting very well and that's helping him but that's hardly a surprise given his role and the environment in which he's playing.

A third of his shots are threes and his made threes represent a third of his scoring average as well. As to the rest, well, the triangle offense as run with Kobe, Odom and Bynum (and then Gasol)...

When no one on the other team really cares about you because 3/5s of the team is composed of more dangerous players, you tend to perform well. Notice that Fisher's stats closely resemble those he posted in the Lakers' second and third title years from the early part of the decade?

There's a reason for that; he's wide the Hell open so often that it happens.

Cassell is more valuable than that because his efficacy is not limited to stunningly open jumpers. Once you ask Fisher to do a lot more than hit those, you might as well put Farmar on in his stead because he'll be a lot more effective.
