Kobe is the MAN wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
I like your thinking...
Except you would split the difference and do neither. Kobe and Bynum and a bunch of stiffs won't win a title and a team led by Bynum once Kobe is past his prime won't win a title. You simply can not win now and win later in the NBA, you have to go one way or the other. This is the kind of thinking that keeps teams like Indy and Sacramento in constant middle ground of trying to do both a little and end up doing neither.

Oh no? Looking at championships won since 1980:
Lakers:
5 championships in 9 seasons (80-88 )
3 championships in 3 seasons (00-02)
Bulls:
6 championships in 8 seasons (91-98 )
Spurs:
4 championships in 9 seasons (99-07)
Celtics:
3 championships in 6 seasons (81-86)
Quite a few teams have been able to win now and win later. It actually seems like more championships are won by dynasties than by teams that blow their load on one championship and then fade back to obscurity, Miami Heat style.
I didn't even include the Celtic's 11 championships in 13 years

Yea right. That's an expansion team geared towards losing. The team will be just good enough to not make the playoffs and screw with their draft position. By the time the team is fully built, you might be lucky to get to the finals **once** before Kobe retires.

I left out draft picks on purpose, as they are too much of a crap shoot.
But, if you'd stake your team on a Derrick Rose over a more proven guy, I guess that's your choice. Although, it's one sure way to be fired as a GM

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Deron and Boozer
Rest of starting five would be like:
SG: Defensive specialist that can make open jumpshots and can drive effectively.
SF: Utility guy; Good slasher/finisher, reliable shooter, above-average defender, brings energy, has some creating ability.
C: Strong interior defender; Shot alterer/blocker at the basket, has an adequate offensive game, specifically containing a mid-range jumper. Helper and compatability for Boozer.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

Deron and Boozer - both young and they could do with a better suited supporting cast.
The current Utah cast is not bad at all, but Okur's not the guy to play next to Boozer.
Kobe and Bynum - Kobe has a few elite years left in him. If Bynum can pick up where he left off, he's going to be elite for ten years.
