I too would actually prefer to keep Baron -- I've been very much opposed to the team moving him for some time. And I'm not actually blaming him for all the team's problems. Without him, we would not even be sniffing the playoffs right now. Plus, he's an exciting player. And you're right that a low post scorer/defender would solve a number of the problems we have.
BUT I'm also interested in progress. And if we're not going to be a competitive playoff team, holding on to Baron (and his contract) seems to be an impediment...even to obtain the low post scorer that you say we need.
So the way I see it, Baron has value and that value can be turned into assets for the future. It's not about just dumping him, but at least entertaining options (trading him to the east and getting a high pick + something else is risky, but appealing to me).
While I think Marion is someone who would fit Nellieball, we're still not a contender even with Marion -- the West is absolutely stacked right now. Plus the Suns shipped him for a reason and he's definitely not the answer to our problems.
Brand would be nice... but where is that money going to come from and what would we have to give up to make room for him? And really -- can you imagine what Nellie might do with Brand? The thought frightens me...
