I think you may be right Ty but the Lakers can beat any of the lowered seeded teams 6-8 without Bynum and Ariza. So regardless if other teams have film on them or not does not matter since they will be needed more for the second round.

Im kind of sad to hear that we cannot get the two on the court before the playoffs. But TyCobb i think you have a point it would make a lot of sense to prevent others to start planning defenses against our two 7 footers.

I don't think it is strategy or at least not a good one. I believe they are just being extra cusious. The Lakers are only 1 game up from homecourt and a matchup against the Rockets. If they don't then they could be 5-6th seed and not have homecourt.
They need to get the homecourt advantage for obvious reasons and they will be playing either the Suns or the Rockets and if they play the Suns they need homecourt and if they play the Rockets they are the luckiest team in the western playoffs.
Playing the Rockets is like being a 1st seed playing a bad 8th seed.
If Bynum comes back after the Kings game the Lakers will probably not lose more then 1 game if that,
Fisher is playing hurt so is Kobe and Gasol is just getting over an injury so there is no reason Bynum shouldn't be playing.
The scouts are so good in this league they know what to expect and just because they know how Bynum will play with them it doesn't mean they can stop them.
If Bynum comes back after they beat the Kings the could easily win the first seed but I want them to win the 3rd seed assuming they play the Rockets or whatever seed draws them the Rockets and with Bynum back which he is ready they can win whenever they want.
They could easily just play Bynum 20 minutes a game until the playoffs were his numbers should spike to 32-35 minutes and he will average after the first round 18 points 12 rrebounds and 3 blocks. These are the numbers I expect for the playoffs

Bynum- 33 minutes 17 points 10-12 rebounds and 3 blocks
Gasol- 35 minutes 8 rebounds 3 dimes and 2 blocks
Odom- 37 minutes 18 points 9-10 rebounds 5 assists
Kobe- 40 minutes 30 points 7 dimes 5 rebounds 1 block 1-2 steals
Fisher 22-30 minutes 8-11 points 4 dimes
Farmar 25 minutes 10 points 3 dimes 3 boards 1 steal
Ronny- 20 minutes 8 points 6 rebounds 1 block
Sasha 20 minutes 8 points

Those will be the main 8 rotation and there playoff average.
IF Bynum is 100% healthy and considering Gasol is such a smart player he will learn to mess with Bynum very fast the the championship is ours and we get to beat Boston for it although I would love for somehow the Pistons make it out vs us.

All they need is 1 Suns loss and for them to win the next 2 games and they will clinch the 3rd seed I am pretty sure and if that is the case Kobe shouldn't play until the playoffs either should Gasol or Odom or Fisher but Bynum should play 15-20 minutes per for the last 2-3 games to get a feel for the game again.
I am really hoping they play the Rockets and have homecourt because that would be a serious advantage over everybody in the West.

I think they will both be back before the first playoffs game.

Will this be the first time we have a healthy roster in the last three years? (disregarding Kobe's dislocation and Derek's "minor tear", that is)

Clarification to the Loose Cannons report on Ariza. It was Mychael Tompson and he siad that he " axed" Ariza if he was going to be ready for the playoffs.. and Ariza said... " Oh ya, no doubt" ....

Andrew Bynum was seen doing one-on-one work with Chris Mihm. Jackson said Bynum was running better and left open the possibility of Bynum practicing full court with the team soon.

"At the end of the week, we'll see what it looks like," Jackson said.

Andrew Bynum graduated from playing one-on-one with former players to going up against a current player.

Assistant coaches Kurt Rambis and Brian Shaw took turns against Bynum on Saturday and Sunday, and Chris Mihm went one-on-one with him Monday after practice.

"He's getting a little activity," Jackson said. "He looked pretty good. He's a big kid, he's strong, he's running a lot better. He's still a little bit short [with his shot]. Just a little bit."

"We'll watch him progress along and see if he wants to join the action [in practice] here at the end of the week, see what it looks like. He did some practicing [Monday], but it's not contact, not moving around through traffic and that kind of stuff. But it's close."

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Andrew Bynum might make his highly anticipated return in a home game Sunday against San Antonio, Coach Phil Jackson said.

"There's a chance," Jackson said. "It would have to be under a situation in which he could practice on Saturday in a way that would convince me to play him on Sunday. Right now, we're certainly not counting on that. It's just really a longshot."

Bynum will need to show he can move well "in traffic" at practice, Jackson said. The next morning will also be important in determining how Bynum's knee reacts to a full practice.

Bynum would come off the bench if he played Sunday and would almost surely be limited in his minutes. He has not played since suffering a bone bruise in his left knee and a brief dislocation of the kneecap Jan. 13 against Memphis.

Might doesn't excite me. Might is a very nebulous term. Andrew Bynum might be abducted by aliens by Sunday.

if bynum cant go for a couple minutes Sunday then he is done. Season ends Tuesday.

Bringing him back for rusty and raw for playoffs where the intensity rises isnt the best idea and how effective would he really be.

Heck if you want to look at it Sunday might as well be looked at as the playoffs. Its not like holding him for the playoffs is gonna magically heal his body 50% more when the playoffs are merely in two weeks. If playoffs were in two months maybe but two weeks isnt gonna make much of a difference.

my point was whats the difference in holding him for the playoffs and have him play with 2 games left in the season? There is none and he either goes Sunday or I dont see him going at all until October

The difference is extra time. If he doesn't play Sunday, he would have an extra 6 days to get himself and that knee right before the start of the first round. If they hold him out of the first round, he would have an extra 20 days to get right before the start of the 2nd round. It may not seem like the extra time is important given the amount of time he's already missed, but it could mean the difference between coming back early and reinjurying himself, and coming back at 100%.
