Well he was no doubt a very good PG last year, but I think he's catapulted himself to a level a PG hasn't played at since Magic was in his prime.
Kinda scary that he's only 22.

He's going to miss like 27 games. Hard to be one of the most productive players in basketball when you play 75% as many games as other excellent players.

MVP Kobe (I don't care for him but still he's the best player)
Defensive Player of the year Garnett
ROY Durant
6th man Ginobili
Most improved Jose Calderon (would have been Bynum had he not been injured)
Executive of the year Danny Ainge (although Portlands GM Pritchard I think did a great job this year and his team stayed respectable)
Coach of the year Doc Rivers (Adleman close second)

Is it rude to bash someones post in this thread? Because I think this one certainly deserves some.
Louis Williams or JR Smith? WHAT? Why would you not count Barbosa orparticularly Ginobli (clearly the top 2 guys in this) but you'll give MIP to a guy who barely played.
5 guys mention for MIP, 2 are homer votes, one only played a handful of games and the rest dont even include the likely winner in Hedu and/or possible winner in Dunleavy.
Why would nate McMillan win coach of the year? Because his #1 pick got hurt and they still didnt make the playoffs? Scott and Cheeks will surely get more votes than him while Doc and Adleman will be in the running to.

Louis Williams came off the bench as a 6th man every game this season. Terry/Ginobili/Barbosa all started between 10-30 games and I just have a hard time viewing them as 6th men.

Did Powe and Rondo not improve this season?
one only played a handful of games
Bynum played 35 games and would have seemingly been the clear, longshot winner if he had stayed healthy
and the rest dont even include the likely winner in Hedu and/or possible winner in Dunleavy.
I could care less if Turkoglu is the "likely" winner. He was good before last season. A variety of stats indicates little improvement. He was used more by the Magic's offense, maybe or maybe not making him a better scorer, but the other options around him didn't make him a higher % scorer nor did they keep him from becoming more turnover prone. Slightly more assists, but he had better options around him. Frankly, the Magic got better from the year before because Dwight Howard continued to improve and Rashard Lewis replaced nobody worthwile. Turk improved a little bit but it was partially a result of his surroundings.
Dunleavy meanwhile benefitted from playing in a system that benefitted him more. He stepped up his 3 pt shooting (on a team ran by Jim O'Brien) but was slightly worse in at least some categories. He became a better shooter, but didn't really improve elsewhere.
In any event, I think Chris Kaman will be named MIP
Why would nate McMillan win coach of the year?
Because the Blazers were among the worst teams in the league last season and their roster - which hardly included any vets - was hardly upgraded at all this season (they added Steve Blake but he had never been an impact player and they were already strong @ PG). Yet the Blazers were a respectable team and at one point put together a very impressive win streak during which time they were hard to beat. And, you won't even hear any of their player's names as widely mentioned MIP candidates. Nate McMillan simply did the most with the a team that people thought was a joke beginning of the season (and there wasn't even any reason to doubt those doubters, either).
Scott and Cheeks will surely get more votes than him
Maybe, both are strong candidates as is Phil Jackson IMO, but Scott has the MVP playing for him in addition to a healthy Peja and one of my considerations for MIP, and Paul, West, Chandler had been starting together (with Peja at times) for long enough to have already developed healthy chemistry
Cheeks just had a better cast of players than McMIllan, IMO, all things considered, and had a guy like Andre Miller (and Iggy) capable of providing vet leadership. Portland has virtually the same record as Philly too, despite playing in a stronger conference
while Doc and Adleman will be in the running to.
Maybe, but why the hell do I care. Doc had a great cast of players to work with, and a great assistant in Tom Thibodeau. Good job, I'll let outsiders judge and really I don't see how I could argue against that, but I can't give him as much credit as others. Adelman? I could list at least 3 or 4 reasons, Yao not included, the Rockets should have been expected to improve on their 52 win season a year ago (Yao was injured last year too). They improved a slight bit once all is said and done. Adelman did his job, but it was nothing amazing IMO.

thererf- clearly after that lengthy response you stand by your choices. But it also seems like your choices is your own personal preference or an "underdog" of sorts rather than who you think will legit win the awards.
Criteria to win 6th man clear, that doesn't mean someone who started a few games wont win it. Someone who didnt even play half the season isn't going to win an award even if he would have clearly won it had he played the whole season. Rondo and Powe improved but partly because of who was around them, while Rondo should get votes they're not truly in the running for the award. McMillian is more likely to win the award next year. Having a possible MVP on your team doesnt make you any less likely to win COY - especially considering they weren't in the playoffs last year and now you are potentially a #1 seed. That goes for Byron and obviously Doc too.
No point in arguing didnt mean to offend you.
