I recall Garnett being listed as 6'11" specifically to avoid the pressure of being put into a full-time C role.
So you're aware of the fact that several of the players listed as PF are actually taller than their listed height, while several of the players listed as C are actually shorter than their listed height. The same applies to weight (exaggerated in either direction to create the illusion of a prototypical size for either "position").

If you look at my excel sheet, you see that the size of the players are all over the map. Some of the PF's (Gasol/Duncan/Dirk) are 7' tall, and some of the C's (Thomas/Dampier/Camby) are shorter than that. Some of the PF's (Duncan/Randolph) are heavier than some of the C's (Thomas/Camby/Przybilla).

The only thing that is extremely consistent in dividing the two groups is that the PF list can shoot jump shots, and the C list cannot (Kurt Thomas being the only exception I think?). Remember I didn't make this list, so I didn't cherry pick the players to make it look like they the only difference is the ability to shoot a jumper.

I'm just going to say that if Bosh and Garnett were centers than NBA Coaches who know plenty more about NBA basketball than you or I do, would have been starting Bosh and Garnett at centers during their entire careers.

Sure, they can play some center. But they don't have the body type to be the starting center on a night in/night out basis
Garnett was out West most of his career...

His coaches asked him to defend Brand, Duncan, Amare, Dirk, Gasol, Randolph, and Martin in order to avoid the wear and tear on his body that Kaman, Przybilla, and Brown would have cost?

When I watch Celtics games, I usually see Garnett guarding the opposition's best low post scorer. They aren't hiding him from contact.

Bosh I can't vouch for because I don't clearly remember the 2 or so Raptors games I watched. Others here watch the Raptors more, so maybe they could explain how Bargnani's body is better suited for that kind of abuse.

As our resident Raptors fan, I'll comment on Bosh.
Bosh is a PF, but the Raptors have mostly been forced to play using two PFs for most of the season. Their only actual center is Rasho. When Rasho is on the court, Bosh plays PF. When Bargnani is on the court, Bosh plays center. When Joey Graham is in playing PF, Bosh plays center. When Kris Humphries is in, Bosh plays center, although depending on the matchups, they would sometimes have Humphries guard the taller opposing center and try to use his strength.
Perhaps Bargnani will bulk up more and be able to take over as center, because it has not been an ideal situation using Bosh at center as often as they have. Again, this season Bosh played primarily at center. Basically Bosh has averaged about 26mpg at center and 10mpg at PF

As for Hunt, I think one has to assume that he is just talking about centers. Like others have said, he is stupid but he's not THAT stupid to think that one would rather have Bogut then Garnett or Bosh.

However, he could have avoided confusion by saying "centers" instead of "big men"
The term "big men" is supposed to indicate that you are talking about centers AND power forwards.

And the last post on page 5 of this thread by bplus on this topic is very good.

There is some subjectivity when talking about whether a player is more of a PF or center, but it is far from a completely subjective matter.

I got a way to defend it. Bring a bat to the game and kill one of them."

Lottery night was indeed depressing. We went from a 1-3 chance at getting Durant/Oden to 6th, yuck. I wish we would have at least gotten 5th so we could have Green right now.

I didn't read every post in the thread, but if i'm getting what adam is saying basically is that he'd rather had a great PF than a good center.

So would i

I agree with that, but it's actually not the point I'm trying to make. The point I'm trying to make is that Bogut is not as good as people are trying to say he is. The category that he's #2 in is a phony, meaningless category, and there are at least a few people not usually thought to be in that category who would leapfrog Bogut in the rankings if you were to put them there. People have given some possible reasons to disagree with me (that KG's body isn't durable enough to defend the guys who Bogut defends), but that's my belief.
