Maybe we should start fresh with younger less injury prone players?
I can not fathom (sp?) the thought of trading Yao or McGrady but damn those guys miss a lot of basketball
How do we fix our problem?

The problem is:
1.) Yao's impact in terms of revenue and being one of the top big men in the league makes him virtually one of those "You never trade unless they demand a trade" type of players. His impact on the franchise her been huge and again the NBA is a business.
2.) I don't think we can really afford to trade McGrady at this point. His value is at an all time low (non-efficient, injury prone, and not mentally tough enough at times) and there's no way we could get equal value back if we wanted to win now. Even if we wanted to go younger, I doubt we could get anything of real value for him at this point, possibly expirings but he's a FA after next season so that's pretty useless.
I think we try one more year of this duo considering the circumstances of all the injuries and what we were able to accomplish despite all that (55 wins and HC in the playoffs). If we can improve the talent more and win meaning advancing a couple rounds then we can go from there, BUT if we lose in the first round POSSIBLY even regarding injuries it'd be time to part ways with McGrady and try to rebuild.

Alston is pass first. Believe it or not we need a scoring PG. One that can make open 3s and penetrate and finish. McGrady is the set up man...he always has been. Have to give him better finishers.

I think as Boston showed us and as the Lakers showed us you can go from where we are or worst to on top of the league in about a month. The problem for this team always remains injuries. McGrady may have solved his back problem but his body is so fragile that any little thing seems affect him. He might play through it but it affects his game.
Yao is the bigger issue. Guys his size ALWAYS have foot problems. I think we are fooling ourselves thinking that will change. His minutes IMO have to be severely cut down to avoid injuries. I mean he has to play about 25-28 mins a night. No more than that. He can't go 35-38 mins the way he was during this season. Yao is not gonna be traded. The Rockets would never do it. I think McGrady will get a pass this year since he is the only NBA caliber player on the floor for the Rockets during these playoffs.
Battier and Scola are fine at the PF/SF spot. We need a hybrid PF/C type of player to replace Deke and provide the defense that Scola cannot. The point guard is the biggest area. And I imagine we'll try to address that b/c all the other positions are pretty set.

It's time to put some liability on Scola. A guy of that calibur on the international stage that plays alongside Ginobli oughtta be better than how he's been performing. To be honest, Scola was suppose to be that PF/SF/C tribrid that would have made the Rockets a contender even without Yao but he has be disappointing. How can a guy with that type of game showcase it so intermittently? There are things he does that makes you feel confided. All the little tricks and knowing the game but then he makes some stupid mistakes by fouling. Pushing off or holding back with his arms. And he can't jump. Scola has the second best post game behind Yao but he can't jump and gets blocked way too often.

So you're saying he's not capable of being an All-Star and carrying an NBA team by himself? This is not acceptable from a second round pick!!!
He actually doesn't get blocked very often at all. It's amazing really, although he has been having troubles this series because of how much Utah is clogging the lane.
Morey 2020.

Good post. On top of that, to say he's capable of playing C imo is laughable.
