Interesting point, but I think the Bird bronzed shoes and plaque, and the Red statue, have less to do with racism than A) Red being the architect behind all 16 championships, and B) Bird playing in the era when the NBA was much more popular than it was in the late 50s and 60s.
Still, Russell deserves a statue or other type of monument in the city. End of story.

Bill Russell is black -- no statue
Real fans know Russell, and I don't think he'd care, but I personally think he deserves a statue or monument, inside or outside the whatever-it-is Garden.

Could be the camera angle but doesn't Russell's arm look a lot longer than Chamberlains?
