That's actually a blatant lie about his FT shooting. He's not a good free throw shooter but he's certainly not "very poor." He's shot 70%+ from the line in all but one season, which makes him just about average or a little beneath average.

Anyway, realistically, Lebron probably would have been primarily a PF in the NBA of the 90s, one who passed really well but a PF nonetheless. He probably would have rebounded better than he has done thus far, which is impressive, passed a little less and been more like a flop of what Bird did at the 3/4 (a 4/3, rather than 3/4).

For a Sf he is a poor free throw shooter. He is a career 72.8 percent shooter, that's neither average for a Scoring Sf or good. It's below average. He is also shooting under 60 percent currently in the playoffs. Free Throw shooting is a flaw of his, any way you slice it.

Most elite scorers in the NBA shoot over 80 percent from the free throw line. Average in the NBA not including post players is probably 79 percent amongst the stars maybe even higher.

little fun fact about FT%. Average is and has been in the league at about 75%. And has been that way for I think the past 50 years. It's stayed pretty consistent over the generations.

It's certainly not a strength and yes, he's struggled the first two games against the Wizards in that regard. But 73% on his career is not poor, whether for a SF or not. He's right near the average mark, he's just not an outstanding FT shooter.

Most elite scorers in the NBA shoot over 80 percent from the free throw line. Average in the NBA not including post players is probably 79 percent amongst the stars maybe even higher.

An unquantifiable stat to support your point? That doesn't help. Go on and organize the actual average for all PGs, SGs and SFs if you like, you can do it, the stats are there but it'll be a royal pain in the arse and not worth it when you just compare to league average, which is still basically 3/5s guards and swing forwards as opposed to big forwards and centers.

More importantly...

It's true that of the league's 20 ppg scorers this year, Lebron is the only guy besides Al Jefferson, Dwight Howard and Carlos Boozer shooting under 73.8% except for McGrady, who's under 69%.

But he's also the league's leading scorer and very efficient overall. It's a weakness but it's something fairly minor and not a critical failure, nor a damning flaw. But even accommodating the idea that it is a flaw, he's still not a poor FT shooter.

That's my point, he is a poor free throw shooter and average mid range shooter for a 20 ppg scorer.

Who cares if LeBron is a poor free throw shooter...he'll improve it next year to at least 75% and people will find a new "flaw" in his game
