I don't mean superstar in the sense that it normally gets used (guy who scores lots of points). I define superstar as a highly productive player who excels at multiple aspects of basketball and propels a team into contention. Chris Paul (points, assists, steals) is a superstar. Dwight Howard (points, rebounds, blocks) and LeBron James (points, rebounds, assists) are superstars. The Hornets, Magic, and Cavs would all be sitting at home right now without those players.

Unlike baseball and American football, the addition of one player in basketball has an enormous impact on the results. While adding a superstar won't win you a title all by itself, it's almost impossible to win it all without one.

In short, whatever puts a superstar in a Hawks jersey the fastest is what they need to do. If that's rebuilding, so be it.

Those guys generally don't get traded. They get drafted.

You know, I was set to agree with that, COB, but I'm not sure now that I think about it. They get drafted more than they get traded for sure since every player gets drafted but not every player gets traded.

However, Garnett got traded, Shaq won titles with multiple teams, Nash left Dallas. The only current, older superstar I can think of that's been with the same team his whole career is Tim Duncan, but I'm sure there's got to be more.

There are plenty of younger superstars who are still with the same team, but they're only on their first or second contract. It seems likely, based on the past, that some of them will switch teams at some point.

Well the issue is waiting for a guy to want to leave, deciding whether he is a legit title-key, and then making yourself and attractive destination for him.

We could make a big move for JO but that wouldn't bring us a title. On the other hand, Oden hasn't said that he is sick of Brandon Roy and wants to leave so we aren't going to get him by trading Marv and a future first.

rebuild would be stupid. We are near the end of a rebuolding cycle that brought a young core of players to the PO.
Maybe a couple of minor tweaks before reevaluating.
Getting a big: Andersen?
Getting a solid FA: J Hayes?
Giving more PT to AC.

All that will contribute to solidify our bench, hence get a larger rotation.
Other change maybe, getting a new coach to go to the next level...
let's not forget that the core of that team is young:
Smooth
Chil
Marvin
Horford
Acie (and would represent a decent starting five in 1-2 years)
add JJ, Bibby, Andersen, Hayes, Zaza and take time to evaluate (until Feb) before making any moves.

As much as I love Mario and Rich, how much games did and will they win for us? I would be more inclined to keep Solo and Salim.
