Watch him in the playoffs this year, his perimeter D is solid as a rock.

Harris. He's one of the best players in the league in keeping his man squarely in front of him and probably the only player I've seen to beat speedy quick guys like Iverson, Ellis, Barbosa, etc. where they want to go in a split second and draw a charge.

As long as you don't make him defend a pick-and-roll or a post-up (during which it's a team defense issue now, not man-to-man), he's hard to top.

Perhaps you should watch a few more Spurs games. Parker is a very strong defender and is continuing to emerge in that area. He's taken over from Bowen as the Nash defender of the Spurs. Also check out the first round of last years playoffs where he gave Iverson an incredibly tough time.

Billups, Rondo, Dooling, Williams, and Harris.

CP3 is small, easy to take to the basket, and averages a lot in steals, meaning that he also compromises team defense many many times. You can have the ones above guard perennial All-Star SGs, and sometimes even SF, and not be worried and comprised defense unlike Paul.

The very very best? Hard to say, very very hard to say. Rondo has great influence because of the amazing paint defense of their big men. Billups is great overall, and he is great at staying in front of his man. Dooling and Harris are just very athletic, and they are just pesky. Williams is an amazing one-on-one defense, and PG's have a hard time unless they get a great screen by big, because Williams is hard to penetrate, and his blocking numbers are excellent for a Point guard.

Second tier? Parker (IMO, the clear best of this one), Davis, Fisher, Kidd, and Paul

Please, "Paul is too small, easily taken to the basket etc. etc." People rarely post him up and when they do it's just a pass he's a pretty strong guy. Just watch him play he does a good job. And his steals don't "compromise the team defense". Paul's a good defender except if you get him in early foul trouble. At the end of a game he's a very good defender.

Kenyon Dooling can be very tough on PGs.

Lindsey Hunter is by far the best defender @ the PG spot IMO. He's always so intense and so pesky.

I think the dozen or so posters after me who agreed that Rondo is a quality on ball defender might be hiding it on you?

He hasn't slipped defensively, but since he got trapped offensively in the playoffs last year against Cleveland, he's become underrated defensively even though one has nothing to do with the other.

Chauncey won't gamble for steals as much has Paul, but to claim that CP3 is somehow a better defender than Billups is absurd.

Parker hardly guarded AI that series, it was Bowen's job.

I think Rondo is a bit overrated because he plays in the best defensive team. I remember Raptors win at Boston and they basically won that game with one play: pick and roll. Rondo could never stay in front of Calderon, who played probably his best game of the season.

On the other hand, Baron Davis is underrated for playing in the worst defensive team.
