Is Paul Silas the next Suns coach?

Post#1 » by ray ray » Fri May 2, 2008 3:11 am

There was a report on Sporting News radio that if D'Antoni is going to leave the Suns that Paul Silas is the front runner to get the job.

Also, it was reported by the same reporter that it's Mike D'Antoni who wants to leave and becoming the Bulls coach. I beleive that it was Sam Smith who reported but I didn't catch the biggening of the interview.

Let me emphasizes that I heard this on Sporting News radio.

**EDIT** He also mention Vinny Del Negro as one of the front runners.
We are going to know ny tommorrow wether D'Antoni is leaving or going. Robert Sarver, Steve Kerr and Mike D'Antoni are going to meet on Friday and we will know by Saturday the latest.

The man has to be sick of coaching a premadonna like Amare. Can't blame him.

I was watching TNT and Aldridge said that it is possible that Kerr would step down and coach the team himself :dontknow:
He sounded pretty positive that MD ain't gonna be back in Phoenix....

Nothing like bringing aboard a re-tread and seeing nothing change..... and doing the dual GM/Coach thing would be yet another front office mistake.

I will be surprise if he does. I have mixed feeling about this becouse I do want that fast break team back. But in reality, we need to become a better half court/defensive team with the personal that we currantly have.

From the Bulls board "David Aldridge on TNT says D'antoni felt micro managed by Kerr and should be expected to interview for Chicago and New York immediately when he's free."

If the Bulls want D'Antoni they will have to cough up a first rounder

The guys over on the Bulls board are ridiculous in their assessments of D'Antoni ............ saying things like they have no proof that he's an inflexible coach or that they'll just gobble up a defensive minded assistant coach to coach the D ......... I mean c'mon, if it was that easy it would've already been done here in Phoenix. That's what Kerr is trying to get thru Mike's head.

How does that work exactly......... if D'Antoni resigns, can he just off and go to another team? Or do we still have his rights?

We still own rights to him till his contract expires... teams would need SUNS permission to contact him. If we fire him then he can sign with anyone he wants.

You can get draft picks for a coach though. Look at what Miami did with Stan Van Gundy. If MD resigns we could request a pick from the team if they want him to be their coach.

Also does anybody know anything about Silas's coaching style? What about Vinny's?

..........so then we'd have what, 3 draft choices in this next draft? .....or was one of them given when we traded Kurt Thomas? I doubt Sarver wants to put out money for more than one draft pick.......and a later rounder at that.

We traded our draft pick to Seattle.

For Stan Van Gundy the Heat received a 2007 second round pick and the right to swap picks with Orlando this year (which won't be exercised since the Heat have a low draft pick). Also since they did not exercise the pick swap, the Heat get a 2008 second round pick. We should get the same thing.

Dantoni for CHI 08 would be orgasmic.

And Dantoni could do amazing things with Chicago.

I wouldn't mind swapping D'Antoni for the Bulls 08 pick if that was possible. But I really don't think there are any good coaching choices out there. Please no Avery. I would much wrather have Van Gundy or Mark Jackson.
........and hey I think this is post 100 for me. yay!

^^ The only way we get the Bulls pick is if we swap it with the Atl pick which is a good deal for us.

If D'Antoni leaves, D'Antoni+15 for Bulls pick sounds like decent return on Mr. Pringles :-D.

But really, I had no idea you could demand draft picks for coaches...that's kinda cool.
