Hmm that's an interesting point there Ex. I haven't thought of it like that. But to be honest I think Bennett is dumb enough to write that. I have a feeling he thought he was going to Waltz out of Seattle with out much of a fight and had no idea that his emails could be recalled.

I don't think it was sarcastic at all. Clay Bennett is a dumbass hick who tried to make us believe that his 'man possessed' statement referred to wanting to stay in Seattle. Yea right.

As an aside to this thread, I wonder if this will be the beginning and the end of David Stern's tenure as commissioner of the league, when all is said and done about this? This could turn out to be a major PR boondoggle for the commissioner, owners, and the league. Maybe not. But maybe so.

taken in context i am leaning towards believing the "most difficult" statement was sarcastic in nature. however, considering some of the other statements and the fact that he really didn't do a whole lot to try and keep the team here AND he was actively making arangements to move the team while still in the 12 month "good faith" window, i feel this statement could still hurt him.

people on both sides will try and spin the piss out of everything in this case. but when you look at it as a whole, especially the chronology, i really would rather have the city's or howards case than try and defend bennett.

For the "difficult" statement Bennett wrote, I think what sucks about it is that it is written in an e-mail. We don't know the exact tone or context in which it was written.

As a teacher, that's one thing I absolutely hate when it comes to communicating with parents...never discuss issues over e-mail simply because the expected tone with which you write can never be understood by the person who is reading the letter. Some parents make me so upset when they have issues and choose to discuss it through e-mail instead of over the phone or in person.

I don't think you can assume anything with Bennett's words. That's simply what they are...words. How can you assume he's being sarcastic? This is the same man who tried getting people to believe his "man possessed" comment was written about keeping the team in Seattle.

I'd take what he said as words...it's fairly obvious he didn't make his best effort on an arena deal..which in turn made it "difficult" on our end on getting something done to keep the team here. IMO he did exactly what he wrote with that statement.

Typically, you don't marry into a wealthy family like that if you're not already in the same social/financial orbit. So I would bet he was not born in a trailer park and guarantee you he's not an idiot.

Part of the reason we're in the mess we're in now is that people underestimated him.
