The owner & GM must work closely with the coach. If you are paying someone over $20 million guaranteed for 4 years, you better be damn certain that you can communicate with that guy.

Apparently Paxson wasnt certain, JR wasnt certain after the first interview & D'Antoni may not have been certain. Hence, he took Knicks offer without even waiting for an offer.

We'll have to see about that. Marbury is not, nor has he ever been, a running point guard able to push the tempo of a game. His instinct is to trot up court and set up for a half-court game. MikeD knew this which is why he was traded.

Yeah, I'm not buying Steph either. The bigger point of that article in my mind is that it seems D'Antoni & Walsh know the roster as is not really suited for his style but they are working towards acquiring players that will. Sad to see Mike go. But please, enough with this "he abandoned the team" nonsense. If Sarver was willing to risk eating the $8.5 mil on D'Antoni's contract, D'Antoni would've been fired a week ago. Instead, the front office made it clear that D'Antoni wasn't welcome & that he'd be happier somewhere else. I don't know if that'll come to pass, though. Donnie Walsh is good & all, but he's no miracle worker, so I don't see that roster being halfway decent for at least 2-3 years.

The Knicks will find a way to get Baron from the Warriors. Marbury will get value as an expiring. They very well could draft Mayo. Every player wants to play in New York, and everyone wants to play for D'Antoni. 50/50 they make the playoffs next year, due to a weak conference. 90% they make it 09/10.

I completely agree. That's essentially the problem between Kerr and MikeD. They have different directions, different ideas. It would've been the same thing with Pax and MikeD that it was here, and both sides knew it. Chicago has more talent and its better suited for MikeD, but Pax always want that defensive discipline and toughness with his players. It's for his best interest to wait it out and go for Avery or Tom rather than compromise his philosophies and jump the gun in making a hiring. It's already been stated that Walsh will let MikeD run things his own way, with his own assistants and no "meddling" or recommendations from management. And I think, to a point, MikeD will make the concessions in New York that he refused to make here because he knows that the GM and ownership will back him on personnel...he didn't get that here.

...........but he did abandon the team. He abandoned it because of what he illegitimately considered "meddling" on the part of Steve Kerr and because the Suns were more than likely not willing to guarentee his future here after the next two years unless he showed he would make some concessions to tweak weaknesses.

Let's not fool ourselves people. This was about the money while Mike's name was still around it's highest. The man didn't want to risk tarnishing his image around the NBA if the Suns flamed out badly in the next two years .............even though he's been the first one to adamantly state the Suns windows was not closing quickly.

Furthermore, D'Antoni also stated that he thought before the Spurs series began - he was on his way to a contract extension to stay with the Suns. Sarver told KTAR that if D'Antoni hadn't found a job last week, there was no way he would have fired him with two years and $8.5 million left on his contract, and that he would have expected D'Antoni to resign.

"This whole thing where you quit and all of a sudden you get paid for two or three years, I find it repulsive," he said. "You get paid for working. I wasn't going to fire someone to pay them $9 million to go sit on the beach. There's no way.

"And the first thing Mike said to me (after stating his decision) was, 'I don't want to take your money ... that's not right, it's not fair to you or to the organization.' "

They didn't want each other, so they part ways in good terms. That's all I care. MikeD didn't bad-mouth Kerr or Sarver and was being a class act to the media. Neither Kerr nor Sarver said anything bad about MikeD as well. So long Mike and good luck. Let's look forward to our next coach. Let's see what Kerr can do. And honestly, who the f cares what's happened between Mike and the Bulls? To me that article sounds like it's mis-communication between the two. Again, who cares? I care about my Suns.

As much as I do not like the Knicks, I hope they beat the Bulls up.
