I have absolutely no problem with the Bulls not hiring D'Antoni

The owner & GM must work closely with the coach. If you are paying someone over $20 million guaranteed for 4 years, you better be damn certain that you can communicate with that guy.

Apparently Paxson wasnt certain, JR wasnt certain after the first interview & D'Antoni may not have been certain. Hence, he took Knicks offer without even waiting for an offer.

This is not an indication of cheapness. It is just plain common sense

There was NEVER a chance of Bulls getting Chris Paul. Bulls didnt have a pick that year. It was traded to Phoenix for Luol Deng

Unless by "Paul" you mean Gasol. If so, not paying Lux Tax for Gasol IS cheapness - but passing on D'Antoni is good business if there was no chemistry at the top.

Yeah, I'm not buying Steph either. The bigger point of that article in my mind is that it seems D'Antoni & Walsh know the roster as is not really suited for his style but they are working towards acquiring players that will. It may not be pretty early on but there is a plan in place. Isiah always said he had a plan but never went into specifics. Walsh & D'Antoni have a plan & Knick fans have hope, finally.

I wuda much rather seen him go to Chi-Town then NYC.

Chicago's roster (with a few tweaks) is perfect for DA's system, not to mention a zillion times better then the Knicks' roster.

First he's forced to work with Shaq instead of Marion, and now he gets to work with Z-Bo/Curry!

Sad to see Mike go. But please, enough with this "he abandoned the team" nonsense. If Sarver was willing to risk eating the $8.5 mil on D'Antoni's contract, D'Antoni would've been fired a week ago. Instead, the front office made it clear that D'Antoni wasn't welcome & that he'd be happier somewhere else. I don't know if that'll come to pass, though. Donnie Walsh is good & all, but he's no miracle worker, so I don't see that roster being halfway decent for at least 2-3 years.

The Knicks will find a way to get Baron from the Warriors. Marbury will get value as an expiring. They very well could draft Mayo. Every player wants to play in New York, and everyone wants to play for D'Antoni. 50/50 they make the playoffs next year, due to a weak conference. 90% they make it 09/10.

Thank you Mike for everything you did for us. Your system helped Nash fulfill his full potential. You turned a 3rd string backup point guard to a starting center. You made the NBA exciting again.

Hopefully we don't regret this. I hope Kerr can get Rudy T out of retirement. I think he is the only guy not coaching that can make this team a championship contender. (I hope I am wrong).

I completely agree. That's essentially the problem between Kerr and MikeD. They have different directions, different ideas. It would've been the same thing with Pax and MikeD that it was here, and both sides knew it. Chicago has more talent and its better suited for MikeD, but Pax always want that defensive discipline and toughness with his players. It's for his best interest to wait it out and go for Avery or Tom rather than compromise his philosophies and jump the gun in making a hiring. It's already been stated that Walsh will let MikeD run things his own way, with his own assistants and no "meddling" or recommendations from management. And I think, to a point, MikeD will make the concessions in New York that he refused to make here because he knows that the GM and ownership will back him on personnel...he didn't get that here.

...........but he did abandon the team. He abandoned it because of what he illegitimately considered "meddling" on the part of Steve Kerr and because the Suns were more than likely not willing to guarentee his future here after the next two years unless he showed he would make some concessions to tweak weaknesses.

Let's not fool ourselves people. This was about the money while Mike's name was still around it's highest. The man didn't want to risk tarnishing his image around the NBA if the Suns flamed out badly in the next two years .............even though he's been the first one to adamantly state the Suns windows was not closing quickly.

I think Silas would be a solid hire, and give the team some freshness and improvement on things the team has been lacking.

Silas is not what I'd term "media friendly" and that was one of Kerr's requirements in the candidates he had on his list.

Don't know what to think about this!

Bulls chairman Jerry Reisndorf is still waiting for Mike D'Antoni to return his call placed on Saturday morning, claiming that D'Antoni misled him during his meeting with the former Phoenix coach on Friday, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

"I'm disappointed in him," Reinsdorf said. "I don't know what else we could've done. He chose to go to New York knowing there was a good chance we would make him an offer. If he had really wanted to be in Chicago, he would've waited. Instead, he misled us. It's not the end of the world, but it is somewhat rude."

"The second subject, I said if we need to get something done this weekend we shouldn't even bother talking because it will take longer than that," Reinsdorf said. "He said nothing had to be done over the weekend.

"I also said if this proceeds to where we want to make an offer, we don't deal with coach's agents. He said that's not a problem and that money wasn't the most important thing anyway. He said he wanted a job where he was going to be happiest. He said he didn't want to coach the Knicks."

Furthermore, D'Antoni also stated that he thought before the Spurs series began - he was on his way to a contract extension to stay with the Suns. So because he doesn't get it right away, he has to bolt and not honor the next to years of his contract? Seriously, the more I read from D'Antoni the more irritated I get with that SSOL-obsessed, whiny little b*tch. :banghead:

And what do you think about this?

http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/116174

Sarver told KTAR that if D'Antoni hadn't found a job last week, there was no way he would have fired him with two years and $8.5 million left on his contract, and that he would have expected D'Antoni to resign.

"This whole thing where you quit and all of a sudden you get paid for two or three years, I find it repulsive," he said. "You get paid for working. I wasn't going to fire someone to pay them $9 million to go sit on the beach. There's no way.

"And the first thing Mike said to me (after stating his decision) was, 'I don't want to take your money ... that's not right, it's not fair to you or to the organization.' "

They didn't want each other, so they part ways in good terms. That's all I care. MikeD didn't bad-mouth Kerr or Sarver and was being a class act to the media. Neither Kerr nor Sarver said anything bad about MikeD as well. So long Mike and good luck. Let's look forward to our next coach. Let's see what Kerr can do. And honestly, who the f cares what's happened between Mike and the Bulls? To me that article sounds like it's mis-communication between the two. Again, who cares? I care about my Suns.

I blame Sarver for Reisndorf's issue with Mike D. It's obvious that $arver's cost-cutting moves caused a rift between D'Antoni and Reisndorf.

Yeah...wonder how Nash is taking it.

I have to admit...I had been wanting him to go...once he did...I realized I didn't that bad...lol.

But 24 Mil? can't blame him.

"Reinsdorf believes focus on 'D' scared D'Antoni"

Reinsdorf is a piece of junk to put it nicely (in forum terms). Shutup and go back to running your franchises into the ground instead of graveling over a coach that didn't pick you. This coming from a man who managed to break up one of the single greatest teams in sports history over support for his beloved executive "Crumbs". As much as I do not like the Knicks, I hope they beat the Bulls up.

Return to Phoenix Suns
