LAT just reported that Ariza practiced today:
Lakers forward Trevor Ariza was medically cleared to practice and did so for the first time since sustaining a broken bone in his right foot on Jan. 20.
Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said it would probably be a week or two before Ariza was ready to play in a game.

ARIZA CLEARED
Forward Trevor Ariza was cleared to practice without any restrictions. It is unlikely he will play in this series, however. Ariza missed the final 44 regular-season games and has been out since late January because of a broken bone in his right foot. Ariza had a CAT examination Friday in Salt Lake City, which revealed that although the bone has not healed, there only is a slight chance he could fracture it again during normal basketball activity.
Although Ariza said last week that he has remained in shape by using the practice facility's cardiovascular machines, he still would have to get into playing condition before he could play in a game. "He got out there today and tried to shake off three months of rust," Jackson said. "He's got time to work at his game. We can't really put a time frame on it. I said a week or two and he said a week."
However, in what might have been an attempt to light a fire under starting forward Vladimir Radmanovich, Jackson said Tuesday that Radmanovich did not play well in the two losses in Salt Lake City and that someone needed to step into that position. "That's a position (Ariza) plays," Jackson said. "I'm not holding it out as an opportunity for him to step right into but we like Luke (Walton) in the role he's in, coming off the benchForum permissions

I like Vlad coming off the bench anyways. Thats what made our bench so deep earlier in the season. We had a freaking second team out there that could beat most lower tier NBA teams by themselves.
Yeah but that had a healthy Bynum and a good Farmar playing. Now we need Luke or we have no facilitators on the court.

I cannot wait for Ariza to step back onto the court. he will definitely help the perimeter defense against AK or deron. Does anybody think that he can body up and keep up with Deron? or that in times when Harpring is hot or Boozer is getting physical down low that we should really use Newbles 6 fouls? I think the physical match up that we see now with Luke and Harpring actually goes to Harpring. He manages to overpower Luke and throw him to the ground. I only suggest newble on those two because they are physical players and newble might not give a damn but just to shove their butts to the ground. Plus it might help getting some rest for Pau and LO. But sorry just went off topic. we need Ariza back to D up AK or korver. cannot wait for him to get back into the games.

IF he can shut down iverson ,then he can shut down deron. Iverson is quicker laterally and going north and south. And has a better jumper than deron. Deron's a better passer, but that goes hand in hand with team defense as opposed to man defense. Ariza's length and jumping ability helps him recover when he gets beat. It all depends on him getting into game shape, and his trust in his foot.
