Shane Battier up for grabs?

Post#1 » by b2theizzo » Sun May 18, 2008 10:51 pm

Hey guys, I'm a Magic fan/writer and I am just exploring trade options for the team. I know that Orlando would be interested in Battier's services but was wondering what it would take to pray him away from you guys, or even if he is avalaible.

Would Turkoglu and J.J Redick for Battier and Hayes work? Just trying to find out, thanks guys

Battier would only be traded as a way to get a 3rd scorer.

I doubt the Magic would trade Hedo who is coming off a breakout season.

Hedo is good value and I think a lot of us would do that trade.
Me personally I will not trade Battier unless we get back a defensive stopper because if Hedo starts with T-Mac who guards the other teams best player?

I would do this trade only if then we can trade Bobby+Picks and whatever for Artest.

No, Turkoglu is not a good enough scorer to make up for our new lack of defense. The Rockets would lose their defense which they were best known for last season, and they still wouldn't be able to outscore anybody.

Thanks guys, I guess battier is on the block, or at least he isnt untouchable.

Turkoglu is definitley up for grabs. It would have to be for the right price, but Orlando is wanting to move Lewis back to the 3 spot, so that means turk either plays 2 guard or moves to the bench. After being cut up by Hamilton this post season, they will be looking for an elite defender.

By the way, dont underestimate turk's defense. He isnt a very good defender (certainly no where near the level of Battier) but from someone who has watched nearly every game of his in a Magic game, I assure you that his defense is solid or at least better than most give him credit for.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Just because some random people on a board say that they would trade Battier, doesn't mean he is on the block or is even available.

Hedo and Dooling for Battier and Hayes...

Redick sucks. we'll be doing you guys a favor by taking his salary however much it is.

But I like Hedo alot, although he's not as athletic as you'd like him to be, he's an extremely effective scorer, and he's got the size.

I would pull the trigger on Hedo + Redick (or Dooling, I don't care it's just filler or whatever) for Battier and Hayes. And that's with no hesitation.

Hedo is good but i don't think he is better than Lewis, he sure made a better season but we know who is the better player, i personally would not do a Hedo-Battier, only if the Magic give something more.

We need the third scorer without giving Battier/Tmac/Yao, thats the key.

B2,
Battier is really a SF,playing him at SG is playing him ot of position, and after the Grant Hill experience,I don't think the Magic want another 2 who's really a 3. For the Magic,I'd suggest going after Josh Childress w/the full MLE. He seems the kind of player who would fit right in w/SVG's system and he plays D. He'd give Magic tremendous flexability w/Hedo being 6th man.(Magic could afford him as unloading Arroyo and Garrity.) Cheaper option might be FA Quinton Ross of Clippers. Good defender,no outside shot, but active on boards.

Hedo for Battier. God yes I would do that. The only way battier is going to help us take that next step is by trading him for a better player. hedo is alot better than battier

Battier + Head for Hedo + JJ would work - I doubt Magic would do it because Hedo is having a tremendous year and Battier doesn't look a fit in Orlando.

Orlando rely on the 3pt shot, kind of like us. Battier would fit nicely, and be a good defender.

Hedo don't fit with us so well - he's become a point forward, we've got a top-3 point-forward with us with the initials TM.

I'd take Hedo without thinking. He is clutch, can shoot, defense isn't to bad, play making is off the chart, out of all the point guards, in play making he'd be right behind LBJ and Tmac for a guy who doesn't play the PG spot. I think he'd be a great fit.

Surprisingly, he is right behind LBJ in 4th quarter points in the league during the season.

If this was up to Adelman, he'll accept this proposal in a heartbeat. I dont think Orlando will trade Hedo for Batteir though unfortuantely.

The sad thing for Rockets fans is the Magic were thinking of shopping Turkoglu before SVG took over and some combo involving Sura,Lucas and other junk and a Second Rd pick just might have been what it took as Magic were trying to clear cap room to sign Lewis and initially Darko.
