From my understanding... He was correctley diagnosed, but then because of the rehab, the knee ran into some cartilige complications or something.

Thanks, CC. The voice of reason. I love how people behind their keyboard think they have a better grasp of his medical situation than all the expert doctors that examined him first hand.

Still...they should have done this longgggggg ago...but the important thing is it's happening now. We shall hope for a perfect recovery.

He will make this team a whole lot tougher. Ginobili, Udoka, Bowen, Parker won't look forward much to facing Ariza's perimeter defense.

Mychal Thompson just said Ariza is ready to play game one. He thinks we'll see him play something like 10mpg.

Good news fellas. Andrew underwent successful knee surgery, according to some insider on club lakers. (he's the guy who called the ariza trade). He just said that they cleaned up the knee, no microfracture or anything like that. Should be ready for training camp.

Here's the official media report

Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today in New York, it was announced today by the team.

The procedure, which took 30 minutes and was performed by Dr. David Altchek, consisted of removing some cartilage debris and smoothing some rough spots on the underside of the kneecap.

Bynum is expected to make a full recovery by the start of training camp.

Yeah, seems like this was surgery to improve comfort in the knee, not some structural or otherwise serious problem.

A small voice in the back of my head told me that Bynum should suck it up and help us in the playoffs, then get surgery in the offseason. Hell, I wonder how many players in the league play all year despite discomfort and pain in their knees. Unfair of me, selfish as a fan, but hey, couldn't help but think that. Sorry everybody.

no I'm with you and I feel positive that if this wasn't a contract year issue, he would be playing swollen knee and all.
