Good point certainly. But a few things I'd mention ...

- Beasley, as the #2 pick, would automatically be the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team. So no way he rides the pine as the 12th man like Dorell. He'll play big minutes

- Season ticket holders will pay to see Beasley (or Rose of course). He'll probably be marketed in print ads and what not, being high profile as the #2 pick. So no way he's the 12th man. He'll play big minutes

- Dorell stumbled onto a team that had a 3-year window to win a title with aging vets, so expectations were high and missteps by a clumsy teenager could not be tolerated. We are in a different atmosphere now. Beasley will be looked at as someone who must help carry us, not someone who hinders us

Valid points but it doesn't mean that Beasley's "fun" behavior (as some call it) will be tolerated. I could see some pampering the first year but hopefully by year two he's more mature because that is when more is going to be expected of him.

Maybe we are thinking too much of it but the history is there for both parties. Let's hope for the best.

- Spoelstra's the coach now, not Riley

Yeah, but to what extend?

We're talking about Beasley's "immaturity" on the Bulls board now.

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=195450&src=150

There were concerns about Beasley's maturity in his younger days. He has admitted to being a fun-loving trouble-maker, which was a reason he attended seven different schools in a five-year span.

He told Sports Illustrated his misdeeds never went beyond slashing tires, writing graffiti or placing a dead rat in a teacher's desk drawer.

I think one can use the he's only 17 argument so much.

I'm pretty sure everyone can think of stupid stuff they did when they were younger, but to have to go to 7 different schools because you keep doing the stupid crap is ridiculous.

Putting dead rats in a teacher's drawer, signing your name all over the school, being told to stop it or trouble could be the result and then the next day you sign your name on the principal's car?

There's a point where it stops being about a kid who's just having some fun and about someone that has problems if their fun results in them getting kicked out of 5-7 schools.

That said, if he matures he can be a player in the league and if Pax takes him, I'll be happy

There was more to him attending 7 different schools than his pranks, although that was part of it.

Big-time basketball players transfer schools all the time. It's become part of the culture.

He kept his nose clean at K-State. That's all that matters.

Its true that a mix can make someone look better...but look at the Beasley clips on youtube if INDIVIDUAL games. Its ridiculous..he has moments where he scores 20 points in 6 minutes and then he becomes passives, he bangs in the post sorrounded by 3 guys, hes even taken the ball coast to coast on a couple clips.

You have to take into count his competition. He is a solid athlete but, unlike college, the NBA is loaded with 6'8 (and bigger) players that will be able to match him and actually surpass him at times.

I'm really interested in seeing his Chicago pre-draft measurements. You cannot believe high school and college listings.

Beasley: "Look, coach. I'm naked!"

Post#50 » by HPS » Fri May 23, 2008 12:39 am

Youthful immaturity or a goofball?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 466_2.html

Last season, Beasley thought he'd found a perfect fit at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. He improved his academic transcript with solid grades, coaches said, and he averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds for a nationally ranked basketball team. Then, in August, coaches at Oak Hill gave Beasley the same bad news he'd heard a few times before: The school had decided not to invite him back.

Beasley said nobody gave him an exact reason for his dismissal, but he guesses that Oak Hill grew tired of his pranks. He wore pajamas to the school cafeteria. He threw sticks at teachers' houses. He snuck out of his dorm after curfew and organized games of hide-and-go seek.

"Me and Tywon Lawson had a competition at the beginning of the school year about who could sign their autograph the most around the school," Beasley said, referring to a teammate who now stars at North Carolina. "And I don't lose at anything, man, so I walked around with one of those Sharpies and signed graffiti everywhere. Every day, they were cleaning my name off water fountains, ceilings, desks, offices -- whatever. I just thought it was funny."

Oak Hill Coach Steve Smith blamed Beasley's poor behavior on simple immaturity. "He's really a good-hearted kid," Smith said. So, with two weeks left in the school year, Smith offered his star player one final chance: He told Beasley that, to be invited back to Oak Hill, he needed to impress administrators with flawless end-of-year behavior.

Two days later, Beasley signed his name in black ink on the principal's truck, Smith said.

"He'll definitely try your patience," Smith said. "You look at him physically and he's a full-grown man, and you think he's going to make good decisions all the time. But a lot of times, he just didn't."

At a practice here in Fitchburg last month, Barton gathered his players to give them a scouting report on an upcoming opponent. In less than 24 hours, the team played one of its most important games of the season. Barton stood still, with a basketball under his right arm, and talked quietly. "Pay attention, 'cause this is important," Barton said. His players leaned in to listen. Then Beasley started shouting.

"Hey coach, pass the ball!" Beasley yelled. "Come on, coach. You're being a ball hog, yo. Pass it. I'm open."

Teammates laughed, and Barton shook his head. Over the last six months, Barton had decided mainly to ignore Beasley's childishness. He finished his scouting report and divided his players into two teams for a shirts-against-skins scrimmage. As Beasley pulled off his cotton T-shirt to play for the skins, he danced across the court.

"I'm naked! I'm naked!" Beasley yelled. "Look, coach. I'm naked!"

sounds like he has a sense of humor - far, far better than getting busted for drugs, alcohol, guns, gambling, disorderly conduct, etc. Now those types of behaviors would concern me; this doesn't.

Fun facts :
- The Miami Heat surpassed the Knicks in championships
- Only the Lakers, Bulls, Celtics and Spurs have more championships

You know I was on the Rose bandwagon after the NCAA Tournament and didn't want anyone but him before but i'm really fine with whoever we get now between him and Beasley. I'm just going to sit back and relax until the 26th of June. ;o

As a Bulls fan, this is my only concern about Beasley (I really dont mind the pranks because he is not going to be tagging on anyones cars in the NBA) Because I was watching the clips from his debut and alot of those shots in the paint could be blocked in the NBA.

One guys he reminds me of when he is in the paint is Boozer. Boozer puts up shots and you sometimes wonder "how did that not get blocked." But that is one thing to look at.

Isn't the NBA also loaded with athletic guys 6'3 or bigger?

What u'd like better on this team in terms of impact in their first year ?

Beasley = A taller more atletic Carmelo Anthony

or

Rose = A taller more atletic Tony Parker

close call...if u ask me, but i like the look and oportunity to rebuild of this team better with a Rose type of player. We d juste have to find a power player and a good shooting and defending wing to be set spurs style.

I'm the same way and the more I think about it the more I realize just how unstoppable/devastating the Wade/Beasley pick and roll will be.

Chicago is looking for that flashy superstar they've been missing. Miami already has one in Dwyane Wade.
