I know he had a much better team but in terms of
hype, the NCAA Champsionhip gave Melo a boost that Beasley doesn't have. IIRC everybody was higher on Melo on 2003 than in Beasley right now.
Probably the only draft day trade for Melo since 2003 that could be rejected was an Oden-Melo swap (maybe Dwight, but back in 2004 Dwight was too much of a prospect, many people thought it was a mistake to choose him over Okafor and Melo was arguably the better rookie of the year taking Denver to the postseason, so I think Orlando would have 2nd and 3rd thoughts about trading that pick)
