Who said this? What maybe 2-3 posters here?

It cancels out when you have people saying Beasley will suck.

Either way draft picks are usually over-valued because it's the easiest way to pick up good/great talent for cheap.

so its just fear more than anything else.

No. I'd easily trade a good player who can't be a franchise player for a prospect who has a 50% chance of being a franchise player and 50% chance of being a bust. Especially on a rookie contract.

And you seem to do the complete opposite. According to you for instance Josh Smith and Al Horford have peaked and not even Josh Smith has a chance to reach star potential.

THere is no way that Carmelo Anthony would go number 1 in this draft over Beasley who outplayed him in just about every facet his one year in school and did it from the post.

You cant compare stats from one team to another team. If that was the case JJ Redick would have been the number 1 or 2 pick in the draft in almost every class. Melo challenged Lebron as the top dog in his draft. He pretty much carried Syracuse to the National Title. What because Beasley averaged more points means he definitely going to be a better player. You should scout players on there skills not on there stats. IMO Melo skill set at SF is higher than Beasley at PF. Melo a better defender at SF than Beasley likely be as a anchor. Beasley will average more rebounds but Anthony a better rebounder in comparison to his position. Beasley a better post player but in comparison to his position I like Melo who a great post up SF over a tweener PF. I would not take Beasley over Melo and I wouldn't take him over Chris Bosh either despite having much better college numbers.

Melo also had a significantly better team... it isn't as simple as saying OMG Melo won the NCAA championship.

I think had/have the same stock...

I know he had a much better team but in terms of hype, the NCAA Champsionhip gave Melo a boost that Beasley doesn't have. IIRC everybody was higher on Melo on 2003 than in Beasley right now.

Probably the only draft day trade for Melo since 2003 that could be rejected was an Oden-Melo swap (maybe Dwight, but back in 2004 Dwight was too much of a prospect, many people thought it was a mistake to choose him over Okafor and Melo was arguably the better rookie of the year taking Denver to the postseason, so I think Orlando would have 2nd and 3rd thoughts about trading that pick)
