As weak and pathetic as the Laker frontline line is (in reality they actually start three small forwards) Kendrick Perkins should have a field day with the Lakers.
When you put soft (i.e. Gasol, Odom, and Turiaf) on Perkins he tends to kill the opposition. Look no further than the Detroit series where Perk man-handled McDyess, Rasheed, and Maxiel. We all saw the numbers, 18 pts and 16 boards. And that was against the much, much, much tougher Detroit Pistons. Against soft LA, Perkins will easily average 15 pts and 12 boards per contest because, quite frankly, they don't have a guy that can guard him.
What can LA do to stop Perkins this series? Unless Kareem comes out of retirement, the big three for the Celtics is going to turn into the big four in the finals.

He average 3.5 fouls in the playoff in only 27 minutes. No starter from either team is closed to that figure.

But if Perk can stay out of foul trouble LA may find their amazing offense having about 8 less chances at a score then ours!
Perk CAN be a huge roleplayer. It's exciting to think he will be battling Odom for offensive rebounds
edit: i can see the refs whistling for push offs now though *sadface*

this topic title is a bit of an overstatement, but there is a little bit of truth to it.
in single coverage, Perkins can back people down and try to get off that hook shot. The problem is, one swipe at the ball from a temporarily collapsing defender causes problems for Perk.
Don't underestimate the Lakers' team defense. We're talking Phil Jackson here... not Flip Saunders and Mike Woodson.

Sorry, when I think of Phil Jackson, I think of the Triangle Offense, not defense.
I also think Phil wins when he has 2 ( Jordan-Pippen or Oneal-Bryant )of the 3 to 5 best players on the planet on his team, and I dont think Kobe's current running mates rate that high. Maybe its a deeper team, but not as top heavy with the elite 2.

I didn't know going left and being tough are mutually exclusive, and Turiaf is definitely not soft.
And, the Lakers in the playoffs were a top 5 defensive team, even though they played against 2 high powered offenses, and the Spurs.

Duncan is the best player on the Spurs, Im guessing he got doubled a little bit, KG is the best player on the Cs Im guessing he will be the one doubled if any not Perk
maybe at the end of game 1
but in all honesty, gasol did a pretty good job 1v1 on duncan

lakers arent top 2 (boston/houston) but they are top 5/6 (depending where you put the cavs)
on topic though:
yes perkins poses a problem and if he grabs anywhere near 10rpg, lakers have a real problem
buts its still a stretch to consider him a true post option considering he gets most of his points from putbacks and roaming off KG (of which those of you thinking KG will get doubled are wrong, hes going to be played straight up the same way you guys will play kobe straight up)

It is not the fact that Perk is going to beat guys 1v1, it is more when the Lakers double off him, he will make you pay both in points and offensive rebounds. Also, defense is where I feel Perk is most important. He clogs the middle. As long as he stays out of foul trouble, the Lakers will not be getting much in the middle.
