SUNS HIRE PORTER

Post#1 » by n8chavez » Sat Jun 7, 2008 6:57 pm

I just got a text message from KTAR that says that Stephen A. Smith is reporting that Terry Porter has accepted the Suns offer for the coaching position.

yeah, the last coaching hire Stephen A. Smith announced was Doug Collins to the Bulls.....so, I for one am not going to hold my breath. If it is true, I am really pleased with Porter being the new coach.

From what I recollect Terry Porter is JVG-lite.

I'll believe it when someone more reputable reports it.

Had a feeling it was gonna be him.

OK, I am happy we finally have a coach. Looking forward to some defense emphasis finally.

The East Valley tribune is reporting it also.

Sources tell the Tribune that while the final details of a contract have not been completed, Porter could be introduced as the replacement to Mike D

Wasn't this guy going to take over the Pistons? Anyone get the feeling that Kerr didn't know who to hire and he saw who the Pistons were going to hire and just made an offer to who that was? I do.

No I think Curry is going to take over the Pistons.

Porter is a solid hire. He is probably the expected hire and the safest hire. Now I want to see the coaching staff that they assemble. Porter had some holes when he coached the Bucks, we have to see if he gets a staff that helps with those problems and if he has improved as a coach.

If it's true then Imma wait till I see him actually perform efficiently before suckin up on him, I've got an official hardoff when it comes to ex-Spurs players joining the Suns staff (thanks to Stevie Kerr).

Not surprised he winded up with us (if it's true), since he knows Kerr pretty well (SanAN Spurs starting and bakup PGs in the late 90s IIRC)

I thought I read somewhere how when Porter was with the bucks how he had very limited offensive sets.
I could be mistaken and perhaps that was another coach, I do think a pg should know a lot about offensive plays since that is what they're supposed to be good at.

I would be happy if this is true. I wish we could've interviewed Tom Thibodeau.

Suns.com has it up and Kerr apparently has already commented on it. Porter is our coach.

From what I understand he is good with developing guards and getting players to play hard. He is supposedly lacking X and O skills.
