I think you need to keep your emotions in check. I didn't say anything derogatory about Mormons and the state of Utah.
The UNLV player's Dad came from a polygamist family and he was a member of the LDS Church when he met his first wife. Sure the LDS Church in SLC banned it over a century ago, but it was until when the 1970s or 1980s that actually enforced it with any vigour by excommunicating practicing polygamist. Further, even though he's been ex-communicated, he considers himself a Mormon.
The fact is many of these splinter sects consider themselves "true Mormons" and that the powers that be in SLC have lost their way. It's a complicated issue, not unlike debates about whether a person can be a moderate Muslim. The bottom line is that mormonism shouldn't be equated with polygamy, even though its a perception that this religion struggles to fight.
