Juventus Chase Podolski
German striker Lukas Podolski has revealed he may be on the verge of leaving Bayern Munich and signing for Juventus.
Speaking to the Gazzetta dello Sport the Bayern Munich man confirmed the Serie A club’s interest. He said: “I’ve been told Juve are interested in me.”
Podolski went on to say that although he hasn’t spoken directly to the club just yet, a transfer is a distinct possibility. He said: “Although I haven’t personally spoken to anybody from the club, let us just say some information has come through to me.”
The German striker has just endured a disappointing season at Bayern Munich, despite the team winning the league title.
Following the arrival of Luca Toni, who ended the season as the top scorer in the Bundesliga, Podolski has found his chances at Munich limited sparking rumours he may leave the club in the summer.
Podolski is currently at Euro 2008 preparing for Germany’s semi final clash with Turkey, and admitted that for the moment he was focussing on playing for his country. He said: “I have not had contact with any other club, not even with Bayern, during Euro 2008. I am just here to win the trophy.”
The striker did, however, admit that he was enjoying being with the national side and playing regularly after spending most of last season on the bench. He said: “Recently I had been playing a little more and trained very hard to be ready for this tournament. There is more faith in me within the national side.”
Podolski has been playing a slightly different position for the national side than for Bayern, an approach that seems to have paid off so far as the striker has hit three goals in the competition.
Speaking about his new role he said: “I have become a left winger nowadays rather than a striker. It seems to work, but I am not going to turn into a defender.”
