Probably not. But he's the best the Kings have at the moment -- even if it's not exactly a high standard -- and may turn out to be one of the better options once the roster is set for October, so it's a possibility.

Coach Reggie Theus said as much today, that he'd rather play Garcia at shooting guard and small forward but that more Garcia at the point has to at least be considered.

It would have been on the table anyway with second-round pick Sean Singletary the only natural at the position. Garcia's development there the second half of last season becomes another momentum shove for the idea.

The Kings have to like the opportunities for creating mismatches with 6-7 Garcia and 6-7 Kevin Martin in the backcourt. The obvious drawback: there would be payback on defense and Sac is bad enough there without Garcia in a transition period.

That would certainly be like having a young J-will all over again! But more bad than good I'm afraid. I would really love to see a Martin/Garcia, 2/3 combo every night. I think it's long overdue and they play very well together.

Yeah, but really he isn't really the solution though. He is more like the emergency PG. But it would be fun though to see them in action though.

It's an option, but only a desperate one. Petrie needs to find another PG, if only as a stop-gap measure for the season to give Singletary time to develop (or until we can draft one next year).

Garcia handles double teams and pressure too poorly to be a PG, his main fault is that he's erratic player, the last thing you want from your PG.
He makes good passes in open court, but nothing more special than many SGs in the league, the only thing that makes him close to a PG is his great handles, but that's not enough, if he was good to be PG, we would never have started that guy (forgot his name) Vs NO at last year's opener, that was too painful to watch.

This would've made the Kings more uptempo which is Theus' style while allowing the team's best five to be on the court at the same time. I wonder how Hawes is coming along. With Hawes, S. Williams, and now Thomspon, that's 3 lottery pick bigs. Is the team still high on the youngster Justin Williams?

Justin was waived last year. I'm not sure what his status is right now.

As for playing Artest at PF, we did that a lot last year, and there certainly are positives for it with the team constructed as it is right now. But the main problem is that even at PF Ron probably isn't quite as good of a rebounder as Mikki. And although the difference isn't huge, we really can't afford to lose any rebounding. Also, Mikki's finishing ability is valuable to use within the offense.
