Jason Kidd:"Avery was crazy"...

Post#1 » by Copperhead » Mon Jun 30, 2008 7:38 pm

This Slam article led me to another article where Kidd says...

"They can't blame that one on me. When I got there, the players all thought he was crazy. And he was."

 So is he saying he didn't know what kind of system Avery ran BEFORE he agreed to go there?

Kidd just thinks everything should revolve around him. He did not like Scott either and got him fired in New Jersey. He seems to be doing OK now and Kidd is simply an old overpaid shadow of his former self. That trade was terrible for the Mavs.

I think its funny because Kidd is a much better player than avery johnson ever was and it must be somewhat weird being coached by a player you played against that wasnt a top-tier player.

I don't see why that's weird. Isiah Thomas is better than any player he ever coached, does that make him good?

Kidd even had problems with Byron and he took them to the finals. No wonder kidd will never win a ring and maybe he did beat joumana.

this isn't a big deal, because Kidd didn't say anything while Avery was there..this is actually a good sign for Kidd, because a number of players would have clashed with the coach at the time..good move by him to wait until Avery was gone..

he's clearly right..the Mavs waste part of their future to acquire Kidd, but the coach doesn't make a system that runs around him? stupidity..it's not like Dirk would have regressed if the system ran through Kidd, Dirk's a top 10 player..he can adjust..

I agree with you Harlem. People that actually watched the Mavs realized that Avery made Kidd nothing more than a weak side shooter( def. not his strength). When we played horrible teams, he gave Kidd control and you could see so in how the offense was ran. Against the better teams, he always relied on his system of ISO's. Kidd did horrible in that system. If Rick lets him have more control, Dallas should be better than how they played at the end of last year.

kidd just isn't a fit for that mav team. he is only really effective in a team that gets up and down. avery cut out all that run and gun BS because he wanted to focus on being a better defensive team, which is what got them to the finals. the mavs were better off with harris, then they had 4 guys in the starting lineup who could create their shot and gave other teams fits.

aha Kidd sounds real egotistical. Avery was the same "crazy" guy that got the Mavs what, 70 wins, and pretty much got them to the finals. Kidd needs to shut up.

Kidd is the most overrated player of his generation. PG's who can't shoot are not great players. End of story..

the mavs got to the finals b/c of dirk and terry, avery had crap to do with it other then letting devin harris start in the san antonio series, he's a good motivator but has no idea how to run an offense

I really don't think that Kidd should be b*tching about a guy who is already gone from Dallas. He should have just let the past be the past, at least until he leads us to a championship because other than that Avery delivered everything here.

Then again, I'm one of the few Mavs fans who actually respects AJ and what he accomplished here in Dallas and is thankful of him.

I actually think it's more impressive that Kidd couldn't shoot..EVERY team knew that he couldn't, yet he was still a dominant player..took 2 teams to the finals with average supporting casts, and finished #2 in MVP voting one year, despite the other team KNOWING he can't beat them with his shot..impressive IMO..

Kidd has, and I think it's by a fairly large margin, the best natural court vision of this generation, and of anyone since Magic retired, he can't shoot the ball, and is hardly an offensive threat at all, yet he can continually get guys good looks and open shots, and he is wonderful on the break.

Kidd was a horrible fit in Avery's offense, let the guy push the ball, he's an all time great at it, even at his age.
