Radmanovic good fit for 76ers?

Post#1 » by WCDYNASTY » Mon Jul 14, 2008 6:34 am

As a Sixers fan, I'm thrilled by the acquisition of Elton Brand. My question is how the Sixers can fill their other hole (a shooter off the bench). Who could the Sixers go after to fill this role?
-- Adam, Philadelphia

They have no space to sign another free agent, so they'll have to trade for one. But it needs to be a shooter who has the makings of other skills -- defense especially.

The next phase for the 76ers will be to change the way they defend. They like to scramble the game to create turnovers and a quickened tempo, but the elite playoff teams will always defeat that strategy. The Sixers need to establish a strong man-to-man defense with an ability to play half-court offense if they ever want the signing of Brand to lead to real contention. While they need shooting, the shooter they acquire must be able to contribute athletically at both ends of the floor.

Anyway you look at it, whether it's adding perimeter shooting, developing their young players or improving their fundamentals defensively and in the half court, the 76ers need to be given at least a couple of years to turn the acquisition of Brand into a deep playoff run.

Sure, defense is not one of Vlad's best skills but realistically how many shooters play great defense as well? Not many, none if anything else. Vlad's defense is not that good but not horrible either. Basically he gives them the shooter they need.

Reggie Evans brings the Lakers some toughness and defense in the post. Could replace Turiaf on Lakers squad as it seems evident that the Lakers will not match the Warrior's offer for him.

Yes, trade works as long as the 76ers Kyle Korver trade exception ($500,000) is included as well as cash compensation.

lakers need radman's shooting too. unfortunately hes the only sf on the roster that can actually make a 3 pt shot at an acceptable rate.

Luke was 39% from 3 as full time starter in 06/07

Luke will never be a full time starter on a championship team. He needs to not pout this year and accept his role.

What kind of contract does Reggie Evans have? How long? How much?

Reggie Evans is definitely a scrub, but he does rebound and hustle a tiny bit..mostly just a rebounder off the bench.

It makes sense for the Lakers because we have too many SF's, and not enough PF...espeically if Turiaf goes.

Still, I don't see anyone dumb enough to take Radman..but I'm a pessimist

Vladimir Radmanovic = $6,049,400 / 3 Years

Reggie Evans = $4,640,000 / 3 Years

Exactly, too many SF's and not enough PF's, especially if the Lakers get Artest by trading Odom.

Most of that can be attributed to using the synthetic ball for half the season. Luke lead the league at close to 50% from 3 with the new ball, then dropped after they swapped back to the old leather ball again.

Well, Luke's shooting slump could also be attributed to the multiple ankle injuries he's suffered over the past year. There was a time when he was having great trouble in even bending his knee and getting off for a jump shot. There must have been considerable pain which would have disturbed his form and shooting action.

Kobe could be moved to SF late in games with Sasha at SG for 3pt shooting. Vlad for Evans in a minute. I don't know why Philly would give up a good rebounder for Vlad though.

It sucks because Vlad is a very good offensive player. Our offense was at its best when he was in the game and 'in the game' so to speak. He cuts well, finishes decently inside and on the break, hits the 3 and is a good passer. He also knows the triangle very well now which sucks to lose. I used to defend him quite a bit on other boards but after the finals I can't anymore. He is a terrible defensive player. Its not like he can't be, he's big and decently athletic, but he looked as if he had never even had defensive training before and didn't seem like he was trying.

He's still a useful piece to us and would probably work well against 85% of the teams in the league, especially with Pau and Drew in, he spaces much better, but with Turiaf leaving and Lamar/Ariza most likely to get the majority of the SF minutes it might be better to exchange him for Evans. He's the type of hustle and rebounding we could use off the bench in Turiaf's absence.

With Brand now and drafting Speights (who will be damn good one day imo, especially if he learns from Brand) to go along with Dalembert and Smith, Evans is kind of buried just like Vlad is to us and they need shooters. They said they wish they had Korver back and Vlad is very very similar player so it seems like it would work for both teams.

I do like Reggie Evans game but I think Vlad is a necessary evil that is suited for the bench. Luke is the guy that needs to be shown the door. I think Brian Skinner is a very similar player and he is a free agent and might be able to be picked up for a reasonable cap hit.

I think that is hurting LA, is that they are hedging on getting Artest and then maybe Kenny Thomas as a back up it that fails then it might be tougher to find a tough, physical rebounder like a Brian Skinner.

A move like Luke and Mihm for say Nazr Mohammad would be a nice addition IMO. You get a veterean big man for Luke who may fit better in Charlotte under Larry Brown. Nazr's deal is around 19 million for the nxt 3 yrs, so the total owing on the contracts are close in the numbers if you account Mihm's one yrs deal of 2.5 million.

Just adding Mohammad and Skinner would go along way in toughing up the interior. I think dumping Luke allows the team to keep Newble and Benga for the third string depth guys at the 3 and the 5. Coby Karl can fight it out for the last spot for backup to the backup at the PG position.

Farmar/Fish/ ?
Kobe/ Sasha/Ariza
Bynum/ Mohammad/Benga
Gasol/Skinner
Odom/ Vlad/Newble

Radman has the focus ability of a cow. On both ends. Trade him now. Give me David Lee for a year.

What about Vlad + Mihm for Verejao?

They have said they want to move him and they get a shooter to spread the floor for Lebron at times, a backup C for this year, and a couple mil cap savings next year...
