An example of a four-year front-loaded $18M contract with a player option would be $5M, $4.6M, $4,2M, $4.2M. A four-year $18M contract averages $4.5M a year. You'll notice in the example that the total of first two years are over the average by $600,000, and the total of the second two years are under the average by the same amount.
A formula to estimate the contract described above would be A + .92A + .86A + .86A = B, where B is the total salary.
The next time I update I will fix his structure to the following with the understanding that it is not exactly right, but should be fairly close:
$4,725,000, $4,347,000, $3,969,000, $3,969,000 = $17,010,000
Not exactly a lot of excitement going on at the moment, since I did the last update (late Saturday night, I know I need to get a life), all I see is a small blurb that Anthony Carter signed a 1yr vet min deal, big wow. I think I'll hold out for something a little more substantial before I do the next update.
