I agree. And if there was any team that could afford to overpay for him based on the publicity they'd get, it would be the Jets.

As a Packer fan, this would be the perfect scenario. We get to watch Favre play and we get compensation for it in the form of picks that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Everything you see from the Packer's front office the last 48-hours seems to be 100% that they will not take him back. So let's make some lemonade out of this.

Yep, the Jets would be a great landing spot for Favre from the Packers' perspective. And fitting, too, considering Ron Wolf was all set to draft Favre for the Jets in 1991 but Atlanta swooped him up one pick before the Jets (who settled for Browning Nagle). It sure would make watching Jets games fun next year. And technically Favre would still be wearing green, which might be some small comfort for the rabid Favre junkies.

I'm amazed we've got so little chatter going on Favre.....this is a pretty massive story, i.e. the fact that he's about 100% set to be traded.

I'm not against trading him at all, but I don't think any of us are ready for the shock that will set in on Sunday or Monday when there is a 200 point font headline in MJS "FAVRE TRADED TO ......"

I like TT coming out and saying "We want a #1 for Favre"

Personally, I'm just sick of the whole thing. I can only imagine what other NFL fans that aren't for the Packers think. I want training camp to start and the organization to move on.

ESPN radio had a good point, this evening, though. It was one of the hosts of SportsNation and they were saying that maybe this ends up being a positive if you're Thompson and the Packers. Favre up and retired and they were getting nothing for him. Now it looks like he could be flipped for a 2nd round pick (maybe a 1st, though I doubt that).

Best possible scenario:

- Favre is flipped to the Jets for a 2nd round pick (1st just seems like a pipe dream)
- Jets have a nice season and we get to watch Favre play well
- Packers win the division and Rodgers looks like a legit heir to Favre
- Favre really retired and the Packers get another young talent next April

We're all worn by the soap opera.......I just think this is going to be a like a death/divorce or whatever in that it hasn't sunk in yet and won't for awhile. This State will be in a major depression unless the Packers come out of the gate fast.

I'm guessing the Madden cover is done already?.....can he be in a "Jets" uniform on it? :)

I would be ironic to give up a #1 for Favre in 1992 and then get one back for him 18 years later.

I still can't believe that they are trading the greatest player in their franchise's history coming off an MVP caliber season for an unproven, made of glass nobody. I don't care how long Favre plays, the Packers will regret this, especially when Favre leads HIS team to the playoffs and the Packers are mediocre. That being said, I am really pumped to see Brian Brohm lead Green Bay to 4 wins after Rodgers tears his ACL while tying his shoes in training camp. GO PACK GO! to hell.

And then throws 4 picks in the first playoff game.

Have fun on the Jets board. We're sure going to miss your team spirit.

The Packers are trading Bart Starr or Don Hudson???? I think you need a history lesson when you speak of the greatest Packer....

I think JakeCronus is entitled to his opinion without the hammering....there is merit in the possibility that Rodgers will get injured and Favre might led a Tampa or Jets team to the playoffs. I don't think this is a slam dunk decision even though I'm in the A-Rod/TT camp.

The question to me for the guys who are major pro-Favre is which Brett might we get in 2008 if he came back to Green Bay. The Brett of 2005 and 2006 was not a very good QB. Nor was the Brett of the last 4 games and Giants playoff last year.

Favre for essentially the first 12 games of last year played magically like the 1995 Brett Favre. But I'm not sure that wasn't an all-time great with his last gasp of greatness. I don't think you can disregard McGinns stats on how his QB rating now plummets as we hit December.

The thing that NOBODY is talking about is his play in the big games. Those that want to see Favre back in GB, or the sports writers that see this as a black and white issue, will use two questions:

1 - Who gives the Packers the best chance to win right now
and/or
2 - How can they go with someone unproven over a guy coming off an MVP caliber season

Favre could go out and put up 4000 yards and 35 TDs and lead the Packers to a 13 win season. But perhaps this is a team with bigger aspirations than just making the playoffs. Maybe the goal is to get Rodgers tested along the way and then see how HE does in some of these big games. Favre, to put it simply, has sucked when the team has needed him most. The Dallas game, the Chicago game when home field was on the line, the Giants game. That's just last season. There's a huge list dating back to their last Super Bowl appearance. Similar to A-Rod in New York. Great regular season performer but folds in the post-season. You don't think that's on the minds of Thompson and McCarthy? You don't think that drives them mad?

With a controlled QB that doesn't take the risks, it's possible that they want to go with a guy that won't hurt the team in the biggest spots. Maybe Rodgers doesn't make the eye-popping throws, but he seems like he's a guy that's going to be more than happy taking the five yard slants or pulling the ball down and running for a gain, rather than heaving the ball 60 yards into triple coverage.

You definately can't disreguard Bretts stats in the cold the past couple of years. You also can't blame him solely for some of these playoff losses. We fall on any one of the FIVE forced fumbles against the Giants and there is a good chance we are in the Super Bowl.

You can't discount the fact that Rodgers, with only 59 career passes, but 2 injuries serious enough to end his season.

I just hope that the team can come together well enough to have some success this season, no matter who is at QB.

Personally, I believe that if we are not winning, many of the TT sided people will change their tune. I have to say that over the last couple of years when Rodgers was playing, I was watching a little closer, I wanted to see how he would perform. I think some people want soo bad to see what else we have, that we are taking what we did have forgranted. I believe Thompson himself falls into this group.

Rodgers pulled a hamstring in practice after the Dallas game, if he was the starter he MIGHT have missed 1 game, would have been able to play a week after for sure but they didn't need him...hardly qualifys as a season ending injury...it was a pulled freakin hamstring.

A pull is much less than what it really was, partial tear, and he wasn't on the roster the rest of the regular season, I believe.

The Packers are trading Bart Starr or Don Hutson???

For my money, it's got to be Hutson. Some of the numbers he posted are downright Ruthian. His 99 career touchdown reception record stood for 44 years. He led the league in TD catches for nine of his 11 seasons in the league and helped lead the Pack to 3 championship seasons. In 1942 he managed 74 catches for 1,200 yards in an 11-game season, which is truly incredible when you consider the runnerups that year in those categories posted a mere 27 catches, 571 yards. Hutson's single-season 17 TD receptions in 1942 is a total that has only been bettered four times in the 65 years since, even with all the passing innovations and teams playing 16-game seasons.

I think in this whole Favre/Thompson issue, one person with great influence on the decision is being largely ignored and that's McCarthy. I don't believe for a second that Thompson would choose this path with Brett unless McCarthy was on board.

McCarthy has spent the last three years watching and teaching Rodgers and he has good reputation in regards to teaching QB's. If McCarthy didn't believe in Rodgers, i have no doubt that he'd inform Ted that he didn't feel that Aaron had the skills to be a successful NFL quarterback. Now obviously Rodgers could continue to be fragile or not produce on the field as McCarthy expects, but Mike's role in this whole debate shouldn't just be brushed to the side.

I guess it's possible that McCarthy really doesn't believe much in Rodgers, TT is mainly forcing Mike to put a happy face on this mess, but that sure strikes me as highly highly unlikely.
